Default patch & msn problems

Hi, I added the ports and installed the patch: limewire is working again
Now I am having a problem with msn: it keeps signing me out, and when I try to send a file to the people on my contact list, it stops the transfer after a while, and I lose my internet connection altogether. I need to restart to get the connection back again. I am wondering if this might have anything to do with the patch I installed to make Limewire work again. Does anyone have a similar problem?

And what about the instability warning you get in the installation process of the patch??

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that the solution posted here for Limewire to work with SP2 worked perfectly for me first time.

Even if I did have to reboot my PC several times.

Thanks for the help.

http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml gave me hope, but still cannot connect. I wonder my router and DSL modem are blocking the 127.0.0.1 ip. Perhaps the Limewire site (see above) works only if no router is controlling the connection. Its a single computer single modem system, but I seem to rememeber that router's act like firewalls. Do I have two firewalls? One is XP the other is Linksys router? What IP should I use?

Tell us your router model number. You will need to set up a static ip first but instructions are at the site link I'll give you.

Thumbs up Re: A FIX! for XPsp2 w router, DSL...

Keylimepie replies:

THIS WORKED! I do not know what penalty I must pay in security or other areas. Someone at Limewire should review this fix and advise us. There are way too many "cannot connect" postings in the forum. Tried them all. This ONE worked! No more boohoo.

see prior posting from a helpful member:

After not being able to connect for weeks I began searching my registry for LimeWire.

After several mins. of searching I came across this registry key.

My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wind ows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

C:\Progra~1\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe

Now if you don't know how to edit the registry you SHOULD NOT attempt this as this is the brain of windows and you could destroy your installation. But INSTANTLY after I removed this KEY I was able to Connect at Turbo Charged Status again.

Does removing this key have any adverse affects? Or is this the ban by windows mentioned in my last post?

Opinions please.

Smile cannot connect (router is firewall too?)

Reply:

see the fix I tried (and worked) in editing registry value per another member's suggestion. Howeverm until that is deeemed wise and safe, I'l stay on the router static ip idea. My reply to you is as follows:

Linksys Broadband model BEFW11S4
connected to Westell B90-210015-04 (ie, model "2100")

That's a fairly complex setup with two NAT devices in a row. I was going to give you the link to the specific instructions for each model, but since there's several versions of BEFW11S4, I'll give you the entire list instead: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm You should be aiming at using Port 6346

Within LW you'll also need to Force ip which will be the easier part: Force IP instructions & sample image
