could not connect router modem etc 2 NAT devices may be complex but I have no idea how to achieve simple. (What does "NAT" mean?) I just follow orders (mfg install guide) and keep my head down and hope. If I can connect with only a router and no modem, umm, doesn;t sound likely but maybe routers do ALL the work. I dunno. If going Modem without router, umm, sure, but then I can't build a network here. Which are you pointing to as simply better? I already did the PORT 6346 and force IP thing. The only magic found has been the member suggestion to edit registry. Can you comment on that while I follow your other lead to static ip methods? |

cannot connect - a fix! Here is my opinion. You are a closet genius. But that is only my humble opinion. Thank you for your post of 10-19-04 "A FIX". (see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=2) This worked for me using WINXPsp2, Limewire 4.2.3, router, modem, DSL, and the configurations recommended at various Limewire User postings, especially from membername: "Ursula The Cleaning Lady": 3 other most Helpful Links for me in getting connected: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...0&pagenumber=1 http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The most helpful fix-it comes from you: [QUOTE]Originally posted by wired@liquidskies.net After not being able to connect for weeks I began searching my registry for LimeWire. After several mins. of searching I came across this registry key. My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wind ows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache C:\Progra~1\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe Now if you don't know how to edit the registry you SHOULD NOT attempt this as this is the brain of windows and you could destroy your installation. But INSTANTLY after I removed this KEY I was able to Connect at Turbo Charged Status again. Does removing this key have any adverse affects? Or is this the ban by windows mentioned in my last post? Opinions please. =========== So now you have one opinion yes? Any others out there? |

With SP2 there is never one single answer! Different solutions have solved the issue for different people but not for all people. That's why this thread is here & as an open thread for people to add their experiences. There's been a multiple of suggested solutions but whichever you find helps you is the best one for you. lol Different systems & setups vary quite dramatically in quite a surprising way. By the way if you were refering to me, I use mac. I only use windows in a closed environm't. Glad to hear your problems are solved! |

What a Legend!: It sounds like you have a dynamic ip so your settings may may not stay the same same each time you log on. If you need to foreward a port you need a static ip. Please answer the following details as detailed as you possibly can. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. |

256 MB RAM is not a lot but probably sufficient if you're not running too many apps. |

I am running a laptop with XP Pro SP2, 1G ram, the Windows Firewall, about 20G free space, and an ethernet cable connection at the college apartment complex I am staying at. I have gotten Limewire to work from home, with a DSL connection, but it is no go here. I have completed all the suggestions in the forum, minus the regestry one since I am a noob there. I am guessing that the complex has a firewall set up on their ethernet link, since my friend in another building is having the same problem. I have Azureus running through an obsure nonexistant port (32400) which seems to be working... Any suggestiong on forcing the Limewire port through? |
