Default Drop Offs!!!!???

It seems that i can't stay connected while i have a P2P open. For 5 to 10 mins i'll be fine then i get the message at the bottom of the screen... windows is telling me my modem is unplugged. My modem will then cycle and connect giving me another 10 mins or so until this will happen all over again. WTF? is this an offensive tactic by my ISP? does windows have an anti-file sharing security measure embedded somewhere that makes my modem hiccup?

Contact your isp to find find out what the story is. Apparently some do block. But moe likely to block if you'e dwnlding copyright material such as movies etc. If that's a dialup you're refering to, try not to do too much at the same time (ie: browse with multipe pages, using 2nd p2p, etc.) It sounds like your isp is not very reliable. Do you actually get any dwnlds started? I mean do they reach at least 1% for eg?

yeah i complete alot of files. i have a cable modem at 3mbps. this same thing happened before i deleted kazaa lite. i heard that some do-gooding whackers were trying to lay heavy traffic on the DNS or something to try and slow down speeds at kazaa and deture people from using it. i thought that might have been the problem. then when i noticed that my modem was physically losing connection i thought my modem was going out so i bought a new one. stike 2!

There must be some comeback upon your modem if it's only just new! I'd have a very serious (but not harsh) talk with the people who sold you the modem. It might be worth talking to both them & your isp co. to see what the issue might be.

A 2nd point, are you sure you've configured your LW up to suit your cable connection? Check your LW options. Also have a look at these: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

yo lord i appreciate all your help... that last post sound like what i'm expieriencing to a certain degree. My modem is fine and works endlessly as long as i haven't started any p2p programs. i can play online games all day without problems but the minute i turn on LW or kazaa the problems start. I'm a little worried about contacting my ISP and telling them what the problem is for fear that they may list me or report me to some federal agency.

Not at all! When I was shopping around for a new isp, I asked them all whether they had a policy of blocking p2p for any reason. Ask them what their policy is 1st, then tentatively put it to them you've been having probs with p2p & whether they can fix it for you. After all, you're paying for a service & if it doesn't say anything in the contract (read the small print also) about blocking p2p then they have no right to (that's the way the law works in my country [middle earth] but I don't know about elsewhere. Unless I research it & that sounds like too much hard work for the entire world - international law was enough for me.)
