Now LW just sits and says connecting, i don't know wut's going on but if u haven't read my previous threads, i have Windows XP, LW version 4.2.2, and connect with DSL, won't anyone help me?

Winnie T. Pooh November 17th, 2004 12:18 AM

Give it some time, it may take a day to get an answer, it's not like someone is always monitoring new posts. Took a day and a half to get an answer to my question. :) :)

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2004 01:03 AM

Wait no more! lol :D Can you tell us some details about the OS version, connection type & device brands & model no.'s you use, all firewalls you have, which version of LW, & where you are trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? By the way did you read any of the stickies in the connection index or any other section stickies? Providing us these details in the 1st place saves time & so you solve your issue much faster. Otherwise how are we supposed to know what your problem is.

OK I've found your other posts. Please stick to the rules & post only one thread about a single issue! Otherwise we'll ignore you! See Forum Rules (Read Me -click here!)

I have XP I think SP2, i connect through DSL, over a LAN ask if u need more

-Ask and you shall be told, knock and the door shall be opened.

Just Really Mad November 17th, 2004 01:30 PM

I have Limewire 4.2.2, i have a VPR Matrix Insignia, i have shut down my firewalls

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2004 01:47 PM

OK thankyou. If you could try very hard to answer the questions in my previous post it will certainly help towards finding your problem. It means you might need to look your devices upside down or to the side, etc. to find out the info, but it's important.

I'm not sure but what you mean by LW 4.2.2 b/c it hasn't been released yet.

Did you configure your XP firewall: Firewalls instructions (click on link) to allow LW access thru it.

Is your comp connected via a router (multiple output) modem or is your connection via a lan network?

Just Really Mad November 17th, 2004 04:11 PM

It says Limewire 4.2.2 on my shortcut to limewire, also i connect via LAN, and i have already configured my firewall with Gnuttella. Either way, does it really matter if i have my firewall off?

Just Really Mad November 17th, 2004 07:31 PM

I can connect now, but the connection is always poor, and always has to reconnect, it has to reconnect so often, that i can't even search or download anything

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2004 10:22 PM

You don't need to turn your firewall off, just allow access for LW as per instructions on the link I gave you. If you normally have it turned off then it doesn't matter.
Can you do a Bug Report check (sample image - click link for instructions) & post back whether your result is True/False. Also, can you find out your modem device brand & model no. I have a suspicion there's a NAT router that's preventing incoming.

dragon65 November 18th, 2004 01:09 AM

Troubles Connecting

Unable to connect to Limewire using XP sp2, Win firewall disabled, and using Limewire Pro. standard machine at home internal 56k modem, not networked etc. Have deleted pref folder but as I have to reset it everytime it doesnt make a diff. Any ideas...

Lord of the Rings November 18th, 2004 02:31 AM

dragon65: It sounds like an SP2 issue. This has affected heaps of people. Strange thing is it doesn't affect everybody. See SP2 Relax, it works & if you're still having problems post back here.

That's an unhappy looking report. :(

1. Is it possible for you to find out your connection devices brands & model no.'s?

2. Also where are you connecting from, home, school, work?

Sorry I didnt realise LW 4.2.2 had already been released. I got caught there. :D

Canoli November 19th, 2004 08:49 AM

mine stopped working to.

I had LW working as of yesterday and it was working fine after i deleted the directory and added teh LW to the firewall list of acceptions. It worked for about 2 weeks then stopped now it won't connect but i doesn't have the pop up telling that i am not connected to the net like i was getting before i configured the firewall. WHat do i need to do to fix this. I have SP2 and a lynksis router but nothing has changed since it stopped working.

Thanks - Canoli

I have Windows XP with SP2
I have Disable the Firewall

I have Lime Wire Pro 4.2.2
I have a cable modem hooked up with a wireless router.
I use cox communication cable internet
I have disable the auto connect feature
I have upgraded my java to most current version.

Everything was working until I upgraded to 4.2.2

What else do I need to do to connect????

Please help

Lord of the Rings November 19th, 2004 10:00 AM

Canoli: You use a linksys router which will have a nat feature that will block out a lot of incoming requests. Please tell us your linksys model no. & I can help you thru forwarding a port to allow LW access. Whilst it may have worked for you before, chances are not as efficiently as it should. As to why it suddenly stopped, well ... let's fix the port for your router 1st.

tahoe147: Most routers use NAT which is a type of firewall in that it limits access. Can you provide us your brand & model no. of your device. You may also need to forward a port for LW. Again, if your router does have nat, then although you could use LW before, probably not as efficiently as could be. Let's fix things up with the router 1st.

If you both still have problems after fixing up the router, & your firewalls are allowing LW access, then it's probably an SP2 problem.

Canoli November 19th, 2004 10:30 AM

befsr41 is the model number linksys in the brand

tahoe147 November 19th, 2004 10:31 AM

I have a Linkysys BEFW1154 ver. 4 wireless b router.

Lord of the Rings November 19th, 2004 10:49 AM

WOW that was good timing! You both replied simulataneously! lol :D

tahoe147: BEFW1154 ver. 4 port instructions & use Port 6346. You'll also need to force IP within LW & see LW Force IP instructions & sample image

Canoli: There's more than one befsr41 version. Instructions for each one is here: 1. befsr41 version 1 & 2 & 2. befsr41 version 2 Firmware 1.40.2 & also 3. BEFSR41 versions 3, 4, 5 and CA You need to determine which version yours is. You will also need to use Port 6346. And also Force IP will be required within LW; see Force IP instructions above.

Get back to us & tell us how you go. Good luck! :)

Canoli November 19th, 2004 11:11 AM

still nothing just connecting. I erased the directory also and did the 6436 test and the page said your request was a success.

Canoli November 19th, 2004 11:12 AM

Now i am getting a fair connection, so its a start. Any other recomendations?

Lord of the Rings November 19th, 2004 11:30 AM

Give LW time to settle.

Also see about optimising LW & maximising upld & dwnld success: LINK A (1st post only) & also LINK B & I suppose some search & dwnld hints

Try not to force resume too many files b/c it'll have a chaotic effect upon you r connetion quality & cause your files to be queued for ages & ages.

Oh & sharing files helps! Preferably a reasonable no. & popular ones. People uplding helps you to connect & connect to more peers for higher searching & dwnlding efficiency.

Just Really Mad November 20th, 2004 07:34 AM

i'm connecting from home, i use some squiggly line, then it says Westel on the DSL box.
