I tried twice and quicky received the "Your test page was a success!" message.

LimeWire is still struggling to connect without success.

When I swept the remnants, I did a search of all files with LimeWire in the title and deleted them.

You will have to explain to me what I do with your "gnutella.net file."

proseandcon may I ask what connection devices you use? ie: Modem & router brand & model numbers. And did you do a Bug Report check (see instructions & sample image) is your result True/False? If it's true, then I'll run away. And how long have you had this problem? Mths, weeks?

the gnutella.net file is in the preferences folder of your OS X Library, and contains a list of good peers LW tries to connect to on startup. Just on the off chance yours is corrupt, I was offering mine as a replacement. Honestly though, LW 4.2 should have NO trouble connecting, and your situation really has me confused, unless something beyond your computer is interfering.

[Ursula/LOTR: what kind of speeds do you get from www.magnetmix.com ? You're in Europe just now, right? Just wondering how reliable magnetmix is for checking download speeds]

A 12MB file averaged around 400Kbps from 4 sources.
(That's with a so-called ADSL 128/512.)

And remember I am on a rather loony island with huge numbers of people connected and only really one way in and out !
(And that is under water !)

And, a great big TA to you for at that moment something rather desirable was on page 1 !!!!!!!

For testing connections, believe it or not, I almost always use

PC Pitstop

Which again just happens to be in my sig...
But, for MAC users ???

At the height of my "turbocharged" connection last night, my magnetmix download topped out at 6 KB/S as a single download from 9 hosts.

There is no reduction of speed in my Entrourage/Explorer dealings, only LimeWire.

For me I tried the 1st example. A max of 20 kb/s from 2 sources. I was/am already dwnlding 2 other items & have a max sped of about 28 kb/s (250 kbps.)

These 2 I have bookmarked: http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest & also http://www.broadbandreports.com/tools

OK. Well, you've tried the clean install, and know your regular HTTP internet connections are fine, so something is choking your gnutella connections. LimeWire uses java, and so does the broadband speed test, so I doubt Java is the problem. LW 4.2 connects fine for others, so it's not in 4.2. Magnetmix can deliver through gnutella at great speeds (thanks Urs and LOTR for the trans (sub?)-atlantic test).

Looks like we'll have to see what Verizon says.

Cheers

It might sound basic but if you coud answer my questions to this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...670#post107670 it 'might' point to an issue you have you never knew you had.

Sometimes a good way to sort connection problems is to delete your LW prefs found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire But you should keep a note of your settings 1st b/c you'd need to reset them. Sometimes basic solutions work wonders.

The reason I was asking how long you've had this problem is that a no. of people have had issues after uupdating to OS 10.3.6 On person suggested to use the standalone Combo update instead. Another suggested to use the Standalone Java installer which has surprisingly helped a no. of people in a very short time. People who previously did fine with LW. But after updating OSX they came up with different behaviours from LW. This suggests some issues with updating online! Try the standalone Java installation. LW is created from Java & runns on Java. The most recent version of LW was put together using the ost recent versions of Java!

The reason I was asking about your devices & your incoming test is in case you have a NAT modem but didn't know it. Sure you might be able to dwnld with it but you also might be limited & people uplding from you might be minimal to what it should be. If your result is false, it suggests you might need to forward a port to enable LW much greater access.
