Update to the most recent Java for a start. Take either of these: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp for Java 1.4.x &
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp (take the JRE) for Java 1.5

2. What modem & router type, brand name & model no. so you have?

3. Where are yo trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)

Sounds like a satellite system or something. It sounds like Linux. What OS version are ou using? Is that Linux, windows or mac? If possible try to find a model number of yur modem/device. It could be on the side/bottom of it.

Broadcom & advanced control suite v.3.03 sound like 2 separate things. The latter most likely by Odyssey. I could be wrong.
