Unhappy Connection never completes...Used to work fine and now...NADA

I have been using 4.0.7 for sometime now and it was working fine until one day I started it up and would not complete the connection. I have Win2000, using cable wireless modem with the firewall disabled. Things I have tried to resolve the issue included upgrading to 4.2.2, deleting the LW preferences folder, turning the firewall on with the port enabled, turning the firewall off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

1st try updating your Java. Use Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

If it still doesn't work. Post back your modem brand name & model number. Many cable wireless modem use NAT which limits ports of use & particularly limits incoming requests. If yours does use NAT then we can show you how to forward a port (open a port) which will allow LW total access & not just partial acess. Doing so will increase your LW's efficiency & connectivity greatly.

I tried the Java 1.5.0 jre with no luck. I have a Motorola SBG900 and I have been using this all along when LW was working (with no firewall enabled). When I enabled the custom firewall there was already a port setup for Gnutella but I added one that allowed for inbound and outbound and tcp/udp. Should I have deleted the original one prior to adding another on the same port?

Thanks Kateedid

yes your modem is an issue. I have port forwarding instructions here: Port Forwarding for the Motorola SBG900 Wireless Router & you should use Port number 6346

After that, you'll need to adjust LW's settings to force ip. See LW's Force IP instructions & sample image But if you've already done that then just double-cleck it.

You should be fine after this. Good luck.

If I did have luck at this point it is not good!...LOL

I have done all as instructed and it still does not work. Set the static IP, setup port forwarding on the SBG900 and enabled forced IP in LW.

Any other thoughts????

I did check the bug report and the 'Received Incoming..' is FALSE.

Go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & what does it say? It should say your test was a success.

the test was successful (note this was after i removed port forwarding..last night shortly after I enabled it I lost connectivity to the internet....i verified that the ISP was not down...and I was able to connect to the internet via my neighbor's wireless modem...so it was my modem...this morning I disabled the port forwarding...set dyanmic ip...rebooted it all...got you post and tried it)

where to next????

LOL

btw...thanks for your patience

Salut kateedid, please install another gnutella client, so we can be sure the problem is from LW. I suggest you Bearshare lite that doesn't have any spywares. http://www.bearshare.com/lite/ Once installed, can you connect with it? If yes can you look at the lights at the top right? There are four lights if I recall correctly, and one of them tells you if you are firewalled. Are you firewalled on port 6346?

All for now
Ciao

Bearshare is exhibiting the same problem - trying to establish a connection. I have NO firewall enabled on the SBG900 cable modem.

What is your ISP, is it different from your neighbor? If you change the port from 6346 to 9999 in LW does it help connect? Can you reset the modem (return to defaults) by either unplugging it for 10 seconds or by a switch on it?

Bonne chance
