I have Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect on my computer as well but I can't seem to find the list of things that it may be stopping to get through to my comptuer.......help?!?!?!?!:(

Hi nicky_ruth
The Norton package you have, does it have a firewall package also? If yes, check it & double-check your XP firewall here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Also, what connecton devices do you have? Can you tell us the brand name & model numbers of the modem/rotuers you use please. If your modem/router uses NAT technology it will block most ports (we may need to show you how to open a port for LW.)

uninstalling

Getting annoyed with it now, so is there a way i can uninstall limewire and then re-install hoping that it will work?!?! I'm probably being extremely stupid but cannot find anything to uninstall it... no-where.... nada....!?! HELP! Thanks.

The things is, there's software firewalls that block a lot of access. There's also adsl/dsl modems many of which use NAT which in a way works as a firewall. So if you have one of these types of modems you will also need to configure it by using what's known as port forwarding. To know whether you use a NAT modem a simple test can be run by simply visiting the following site & it will tell you (look at what's in the grey box & it will say whether you have a nat device or not!): http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php Another simple test you can do is go to: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & it wil hopefully tell you the test page was a success. Could you reply back what your test results were for these 2 tests. And if you do have a nat device, then tell us the details of your modem as I asked earlier. If you don't have a nat device & your 6346 test failed than your firewalls/norton are interfering.

Right, went to the first address and my computer doesn't use NAT, the other address didn't work? hmmm? I'm at Uni so on a general network,... have no idea about modems? On a laptop.... so...? Sorry, being very unhelpful :S.

That in itself could be the issue! Many uni's block p2p use nowadays because it uses up too much bandwidth & dwnld quantity which they pay big dollars for. Contact the tech dept there to find out if they deliberately block p2p use. The only other advice I can offer at this time is to force IP: See force IP instructions for LW If this doesn't work yo can try different port no.'s Perhaps there's one/2 they haven't completely blocked. See this for other optional ports to use: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=24523

Thank you for your help, its very much appreciated. However whatever is wrong with the programme or my computer its starting to mess with stuff and crash my laptop... so just doing to delete it.... thats if I can work out how?! Any help in that area would go down a treat! Cheers.

And...

Ok, deleted Limewire and Java..... when I downloaded the programme dose something called More Symantec Solutions come with it... cause I don't recognise the programme but don't want to go deleting something that I need without realising it! Yup, thats something I would do! Stupid I know!

People who do not allow Private Messages sometimes miss out on some solid Private advice !

Where did you dwnld the program from? Here?: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml If you're gong to re-install it, install a later version of Java 1st. Otherwise it'll ask to install Java 1.3 when it's better to use Java 1.4.2 (click on link)

Did you configure your Symantecs Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect properly. I believe Norton itself can cause issues.
