Force IP instructions are here: Force IP instructions & sample image You add the port no. not your ip address. The port no. for both the Firewall & Port should be the same. (ie: Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall & Port)
You would only add your ip to a router if you were configuring it for LW to have access if it's a NAT router (NAT is comparable to a firewall.)

ok so i dl-ed the 4.2.4,, and then i let the LW settle for 1 hour,, but then an error occured,, it says..

"limewire is unable to connect to hose on Gnutella network. This is most often due to firewalls or content filtering software blocking access to Gnutella port 6364... and so on"

so,, how come a firewall setted up by itself when before i had no problems using the LW...?

It means LW has lost its connection for some reason. Don't know why. What type of connection do you use? And what modem/router brand name & model no.? If you have firewalls have you configured them for LW?: Instructions here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

boss, one more question..
how do we know our IP on LW for the Direct Connect ? my friend's LW doesnt say its IP on the Direct Connect box... but mine shows...

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2004 04:33 AM

Simple & sweet: http://www.whatismyip.com/ ;) Oh by the way, having Chat enabled is supposed to help with Direct Connect. Oh I forgot. Your outgoing address should be listed above the DC box with a 6346 after it; eg: xx.xx.xx.xx:6346 which is what your friends would need to enter to Direct Connect to you. If you don't go thru port 6346 then obviously it'd be different. But that's the default port LW normally goes thru. So anyway, you need to commenicate your address to them & vice versa for firect connect.

Well, yeah.
Using chat while doing Direct Connects does help...
Mainly in saving you money because you are slightly less tempted to smash your computer to component atoms while the frustration grows !!!

p.s. Don't forget that when trying Direct Connects, you do NOT normally want to be connected to the network (As in not connected to Ultrapeers).
;)

im getting frustrated now,, my LW is back to my original problem,, it goes on to fair,, and after a while,, goes back to connecting.. and that error message comes back,, that says 6346 is blocked by a firewall and stuff,,, this happens after an hour or so..

but the "Received incoming this session: true" says it..

whats wrong with this,,

123454321 December 8th, 2004 07:58 AM

guys,, im so sorry,, and again,, my LW is making fun of me,, geez,, im loving her,, LW,,

see,, after i wrote something about her not connecting,, i restarted my com,, and she just connects to excellent booms !!
and there she is smiling at me...

sorry guys,, i just gotta be pacient with my LW,, she's just joking with me.. and again,, sorry for the fuss...

and the part about the IP,, my friend's still doesnt show up,, how am i suppose to know !? should i let him direct connect me,, and see his ip from there !? bcoz i cud know just from the "monitor" from what he's uploading right ? wouldnt that be easier !?

So did your friend go here: http://www.whatismyip.com/ ? But yes, if you're sure that's your friend connecting to you. You need/can to add their port number at the end to my understanding. At least that's the recommendation with LW 4.2 eg: When your friends want to connect to you, they should enter "***.***.***.**:6346" with the * representing your ip no.
