Keep Losing connection and will not reconnect

when i bring up limewire pro it will not connect all the time. If it does connect it only stays connected for a few minutes and then the quality goes down to fair or poor and then it loses connection. What is the deal, and what can i do? Thanks,

It sounds like an external issue. You will need to configure your firewalls to allow LW access; see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
And can you post back your modem & router brand name(s) & model numbers. They also may need to have a port opened to allow LW access.

My modem is a conexant soft56k modem, I have windows xp with service pack 2. I have already taken off the firewalls. But i still get a message saying that there must be a firewall blocking limewire. Tell me u can help me fix this

You use a dial up modem. Then it's either SP2 or your ISP service that's the issue. Contact your ISP to find out if they have any policy against p2p use. See this about SP2: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28437

It never hurts to update your Java. Try Java 1.4.x OR else try Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Double-check your firewalls here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

I have downloaded java. But still no good. I also downloaded that patch. It connected for a little bit but it would not get any higher than that. Then it disconnected. What else can i do. Thanks

Go to this site & tell us what you see: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say test page was a success.

trey75672 November 27th, 2004 11:46 AM

It said that it was a sucess. I'm connected right now for this minute, but it will get no higher than fair. What can I do??
Just lost it!

It sounds tricky. Leave LW on for about an hour & do this check: Bug Report instructions & sample image And post back whether it says True?False. leaving LW on for a time can help it to connect by the way.

trey75672 November 27th, 2004 12:22 PM

It said false.

Well I'm stumped for the moment. What's more I'm going offline soon. It's not connecting properly. Try this: Close LW, & delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire Then re-open LW & give it some good time to try to re-connect. Leave it for an hour or so. Oh I almost forgot, BEFORE you quit LW, make a note of all your settings b/c once you delete the LW prefs you'll need to reset them the next time you open LW.

By the way, how many incomplete files do you have? Post back & I'll get back to you tomorrow unless aanother member does befoe me.

How many incomplete files do you have?

You can do some quick tests; go here & do as many of the following tests as possible. Particularly: Tweak Test, speed test, Line Packet Loss Testing. http://www.broadbandreports.com/tools

There's something blocking LW! I suspect the issue is either (still) SP2 or your ISP line is unreliable. Or you haven't configured your firewalls properly.
There's no need for any individual to have SP2!!! It was intended for big businesses that run major networks. But it has even caused them major problems. So for individuals to update to it is adopting problems you really didn't need b/c it doesn't serve any purpose for you.

I have the same issue. I just found out that my firewall didn't have the "javaw" application as an exception. I only have a program called "javaws" and I have allowed it. If this fixes the problem then everyone who has this same issue should check if their firewall settings include the javaw program/application as an exception along with limewire.
