![]() Greetings, I recently installed version 1.4 on my pentium 866 with 384 MB memory... unfortunately only a 56k modem connection available at my location right now. I've placed about 650 .mp3s in my shared folder, so I'm not a freeloader. My problem is this. I've tried about 20 times to download "4-star" files, avoiding the red numbered (firewalled) sources. I've never been able to get past about 10% complete. It seems like so many upload requests (as well as the variable host connections) are occurring, I get swamped. I've tried reducing the number of simultaneous uploads available... as well as setting freeloading criteria to 50. (Just to reduce the outflow.) I don't know what to do. I never had much of a problem on Napster... even though my connections were slow. Any hints, thoughts, etc. would be SINCERELY appreciated. Thanks |

![]() Hello Adam, First, thanks for responding. It is GREATLY appreciated. It's tough to determine if the problem is on MY end... or something inherent in the system. Anyway, at different times I get a "Couldn't download" message, and other times just a slow down to 0.0 KB/s. Any thoughts / countermeasures would be welcome. Also, I understand and accept your comment on modem users having a rough time right now. I don't pretend to understand what the fix would be for those of us "shackled" by 56k modem usage... but anything Limewire can do to help us out would be better than good. It would be a lifesaver. Thanks again for your time and considerate reponse. Sincerely, Roger |

![]() I'm glad that limewire's incoming searches suck up bandwidth for modem users since modem users give nothing back. Go ahead and place a bunch of mp3's in your shared folder but that's just a joke anyway. Wow, I'm getting 2.3k/sec! Thanks for nothing! When you modem users download you also waste resources by taking up download slots for huge amounts of time just to grab one file. Many users limit the number of uploads so that other people can get their downloads faster but you modem users take ridiculous amounts of time to get one file while taking away the upload slot the entire time. I wish you could ban modem users entirely from P2P networking but it's just not possible. Too bad. |
