Default Help?

Ok I have posted a thread a few days ago stating my problem. but i have not recieved any replies. I would like to know if my problem can be solved. If it can't could someone please say so, if it can be fixed, please help me fix it.

Here is my problem:
I have downloaded the software, it will open with no problem. But it will not connect. When I hit the connect button it wont go through it will just say "Connecting..." I have gone through the procedures that the website said to do. Such as changing the IP addresses and so on. I have also gone through the threads of the forum and done what they said to do to fix the problem. None of which has worked. I am completely clueless when it comes to computer problems.

So, if someone could please help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Please keep all posts regarding one problem to the one thread. Forum Rules: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. what firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your sonnection problem is.

Go here & tell us what happens: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say test page was successful. If not then we need to find out why.

ok i only know half of what you asked for... my firewall is McAfee. Connection type is cable. The model # is DHP. I dont know what is a OS version, ram, or what a router is. I dont know how to check my HDD availability. I have a Dell Intel Pentium 4 with windows XP. so if you could, tell me how i can find out that information for you. Incase you havent noticed I am not good with computers. So forgive me.

That's ok, we get lots of people who don't know much about computers.

OS is short for Operating System. eg: windows 98, XP, mac osx, etc.

You do have a firewall. That will stop you connecting unless you give it permission for Limewire (LW) & Java to pass thru. Here's a link for McAfee instructions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml (You will find a link at the very bottom of the page.) If you have Windows XP, then it will have its own firewall called Win XP firewall.

Your modem should have a brand name on it somewhere on the box, either on top, the side or on the bottom. Many high speeed broadband & cable modems have internal firewalls. If yours has one & we know the brand & model number, then we can give it instructions to allow LW thru it.

Oh by the way, did you go to that link in my previous post? What happened when you went there? It's a very quick test to see how badly blocked you are. It tests to see if port 6346 is totally blocked. LW uses port 6346.

the only information that is printed on my modem doesnt not say a brand name. it says the model number is DHP then a few paces over from that it says A: 2.0/1.0A but the only other information that is on there is the seriel number and the mfg date as well as some patent numbers.

That's strange! What type of modem is it - Broadband/cable/dial-up?

Can you get back the answers to the other questions so we can sort those issues out?
