I CAN'T CONNECT...Computer illiterate please help!! I recently bought a Dell Computer and installed Lime Wire. The installation went fine, the icon is there and i can access the program no problem....but i can't connect! It simply says CONNECTING...i can't get any search results...i can't do anything!! We haven't installed our firewall yet, so that's not the problem....we are connected to the internet through our cable provider. I don't know if i'm just missing a step or if something is wrong. I don't know much about computers, so if you could help me out in layman's terms i'd greatly appreciate it!! Thanks! |

Are you sure your isp doen't block p2p? Ask them. What brand name & model number of modem & router do you use? Many cable & broadband modems have a type of firewall. That means in order to use p2p, play advanced games over the net or video conferencing, you'd need to allow access for them thru a process known as port forwarding. If you can provide detailed answers I might be able to help if this is the problem. Also, make sure you have the most recent Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) |

okay.... the only box i see down there says HON-KWANG, I.T.E. Power Supply...Model # D12-1500-950--is that what you're looking for?? And i believe that we are renting it.. I do have Windows XP....so what do i have to do with the firewall.. I can't get Java to install...still trying. |

No not the power supply. In this order: 1. XP Firewall instructions for LW & java access 2. update your installshield install engine. Then update your java. 3. Open LW & let it run for over 60 mins. Any difference? ALso some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. |

I have this same problem, can't get to fully connect. I too am computer illiterate (although I can tell the power supply from everything else) I have XP, cable, setup my firewall w/ the gnutella stuff mentioned on the limewire website, deleted my .limewire stuff, dl'ed that jar file from another thread here, still cannot connect?!? Why the heck is this so difficult for so many people, it seems you should be able to just download limewire, disable your firewall, or change some settings, then start downloading some freakin music! |
