Try 2 things: Delete LW's prefs folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Update your java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)

What happens is when you delete that folder, the next time you open LW it will create a new preferences folder. But if you have any special settings it would be worth making a note of them before you delete that folder b/c you will need to reset your LW options.

Depending on your Operating System version the LW prefs folder should be found in C:\Documents and Settings\Username for Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP but for Windows 98 / ME you may find it here C:\My Documents
You can do a search for .limewire & find it that way. I have provided a sample image to show what I mean. I'm not a windows user per se so I hope this is ok.

Just in case this trick doesn't fix your problem can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Default no connection after upgrade to 4.2.6

After upgrading, LW occasionally works but is usually frozen on 'connecting.' Previous version (4.0.8 I think,) was brill, and continued to work fine after sp2. Problems started after upgrade.
Use my computer @ home.
OS- Win XP home
3.06 processor, 120G HD, (90 free,) 512 DDR.
McAfee virus scan (not firewall,) and XP firewall.
Dial up tiscali broadband (512 kbs.) Sagem F@st 800 (E2T) ADSL Modem. 2 other numbers on the back of modem:
0418-B099958
251490635AA.
I opened port 6346 for Gnutella, just in case, when I first started using the old version. But since reading as much info from this forum as I can, I have:
Deleted LW preferences folder, updated Java to 1.4.2, forced the port on LW, tried connecting with disabled firewall, checked port access again in windows and used IP address 127.0.0.1 as instructions from LW firewall help page. Bug report shows 'false' on recieved traffic this session. I have carried out the port 6346 test and it said test page successful.
When the upgrade loaded onto my system, it didnt seem to upgrade, but gave me a complete new version side by side with the old version, so I deleted the old version using the Change/remove program function, that would guard against deleting any files that the new LW would use from the old version, (I hope.) I have spent hours reading through the forum and dont think I have missed anything. Please help if you can, and I promise to purchase LW pro. (It has been playing on my conscience coz Ive got such alot of good stuff from you.)

So you configured your xp firewall using these instructions?: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Your modem is a usb. The only point I'd make about usb modems is that they can be inconsistent from what I've read. They draw power form the comp & also utilise the computer's processor. But I doubt this has anything to do with your present connection issue.

Have you seen this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23895

Also try this: Force IP instructions & sample image

thanks for quick reply. In answer, yes I did configure port settings thru LW firewall help page that you mentioned, and also forced the port and got a successful sample page thru port 6346.
A couple of little funny things that have happened is that sometimes, even when LW is stuck on 'connecting,' the bug report on LW will show 'true' next to 'received incoming this session. Another weird thing is that when I go to the advanced tab of 'windows firewall' to check that port 6346 is still enabled, I will type in 127.0.0.1 as the providers address, but after restarting the computer, this adress number has dissappeared and returns to my user name, although the port number has remained. I dont know if any info given here gives any more clues. Would you say it is definately the port being blocked by my firewall, and therefore I could try changing the port for Gnutella access. What is the significance of the problem occuring after I upgraded to LW 4.2.6
ps I went to the link provided but dont use AOL

Default Same problem

I have the same problem after upgrading to Pro 4.2.6. It doesn't seem to perform as well and now I can't even connect to any ultrapeers despite trying all of the suggestions posted here, including deleting the LW prefs folder.

I'm running on XP Prof, behind a Sonicwall firewall, connected by an ethernet cable to a LAN at work, 448 RAM and 14 gigs of HD space.

Any other ideas?

Spacemanta may I ask what Modem & router brand name & model numbers you use?

Try re-installing Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) OR else Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Thanks for the quick response. I'm connected to my work's LAN using a Reaktek RTL8139/810x ethernet adapter. I have no idea how the network is connected to the Internet.

I'm already running Java 1.4.2. and just installed the JRE 5.0 Update 1 that you linked me to. Still no dice.

This is strange because I was connected just last night and have made no software or hardware changes to my laptop since then. Could be a network problem?
