Angry Limewire bouncing icon will not connect

eMac G4
OSX Panther
dsl

Up until yesterday Limewire worked perfectly. Then Bouncing icon and nothing. I have deleted Original LW including preferences and downloaded again. Same problem! Checked firewall, allowed LW.
I am beginning to wonder if I am installing LW properly? I am a new Mac user, when I install, it seems to load too quickly? Should I have to restart?
Why should it work one day then stop the next?
Is it ok to reinstall from the download icon on my desktop? Or should I delete this also when I am getting rid of all previous LW applications before downloading from LW site?
I am at a loss here can anyone help?

Check these two threads: Permissions & also icon bouncing in dock
May I recommend you try using the Standalone Java installer b/c sometimes updates over the internet cause some side-fx.

What type of firewall do you use. Have you configured it to allow LW & Java full access? http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

You should delete the icon from the dock when you uninstall an app.

You use dsl, may I ask which modem/router brand & model number you use? Many dsl modems use NAT firewalls.

Default LW won't open Mac OSX user

Hi.
I have tried most of the solutions within the threads.
I downloaded most recent Java as recommended.
Standard QSX Firewall.
I can't find any ref' to Java in Firewall? I ticked the Limewire box but cant find any ref' to Java.
Repaired permissions.
Uninstalled LW completely,
Re installed Beta version of LW,
Modem is a Thomson speedtouch, this came from Pipex.
When I install LW it dosn't seem to find any previous versions. How many times can it be loaded onto a Mac?
Help, I'm at my wits end. It was working fine, has been for months!

I can tell you your Thompson modem uses a NAT firewall & will need to have a port forwarded for LW. Can you tell us the model number?

I have multiple versions of LW on my mac. Though I don't recommend going backwards in versions b/c it can stuff up your dwnld prefs.

Try this beta version: http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/ (choose the http link & don't use Explorer to dwnld it!) It is a beta version & although it has a couple of xtras, the media player is disabled (but with iTunes you shouldn't be too worried.) This version may well sort things out!

If so, can we get your modem port forwarded to allow 100% access thru the port 6346? Give us the model no. & I'll give you the instructions.

Default Bouncing icon /Mac OS X

What do you mean by 'a port forwarded for LW'?
How do I 'forward' the port?
The modem is a speedtouch 330?
Does that help?
Thanks for the help!

I am mistaken. Your particular model does not use NAT. See: http://www.speedtouch.com/supfaq330R3.htm#60

But usb modems do tend to power from both the computer & utilise the comp's processor which 'may' result in inconsistent results.

Deleted previous LW and downloaded new version. Icon appears ok, but just bounces and refuses to open!
I think I must be doing something basic, wrong!

With this version it asks to be dragged onto the hard drive, is that it installed? Or should I do something else?

Starting to despair now we loved Limewire!

That is bad news if the jum build does the same thing. Your system doesn't sound healthy. In most cases a permission & system repair should fix these issues. You may need to restart from the installation disk & use disk utility to repair your mac osx. If you have any other 3rd party utilities such as Norton Utilities, DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro or Drive 10 or others, give them a run over of your OSX. There may be a directory data miscount error or something that's causing issues.

Failing everything you could try to go back to an earlier version: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/

Sorry I didn't give you enough detail. If you use Disk Utility you can only repair permissions. However, if you use a startup disk you can also choose the option to 'Repair' the OSX HDD or partition using Disk Utility from the startup disk (in utilities folder.)

There are some problems Disk Utility simply can't repair which is where 3rd party utilities come in handy & sometimes a necessity. Disk Warrior 's main focus is to repair the directory damage or corruption. And if you move large amounts of GB frequently this may not be a rare thing. Other utilities such as Norton & TechTool, etc. are more general repairers. Although Norton can often but not always also repair directory damage which can potentionally lead to the loss of many files if not fixed asap. eg: I just repaired my external HDD 2 days ago using Norton. It had become a read only hdd lol Nothing could be copied to or from it but!
I applied Norton from another mac & it fixed it just dandy. lol
