Private network - Can not get the setting right :-((

Hello,

i try to set up my own private network but i can not seem to get the settings right and can not find the right settings.

As far as i could find i only need to change the settings at the advanced tab (tools options)

The connect string i change to:

AAAA BBBB

The connect OK string i change to:

AAAABBBB PRIVATE OK

That is what i could find on the limewire website but it does not seem to work for me. A friend of mine changed the settings into the same but he can not find my "network".

Also Limewire seems not to connect after changing these settings. The button connect is there all the time. Same with my friend, even when we are online toghether.

Anyone any idea what i do wrong ?

Greetings

Henry

PS: When using the gnutella network everything works fine.

When people fill in my IP number at the connections tab it suddenly works with the settings like shown above.

Does that mean that they also need my IP or is there a way to do all this without other people needing my IP ?

Greetings

it's always the same problem: in a p2p-network you need to know the ip of another peer, to connect.
then you can ask him, if he knows other peers (ping). and he will tell you what peers he had found so far (pong). thats how gnutella works.

to find your first peer, you can enter a ip you know manually, download a list of peers from the internet, take the list of the last run of your servent or use a host cache (like router.limewire.com:6346 or gnutellahosts.com:6346).

so if you have a very small privat network you will have to enter the ip manually.

btw: why don't you look for the answer yourself?
google is your friend. ;)
