cannot connect to anything i used to be able to connect to limewire and other things like that, but due to my firewall(i assume) i can no longer connect. in limewire(i have version 4.0.8) and when i am connected i go to the search thing, attempt to do a search but when i click search it says i am no longer logged in. i cannot connect to any other things either, like kazaa. my fire wall is D-link(thats all it says) and im using it due to a router to use a cable moddem(my friend who knows about computers hooked it all up and did the firewall thing) so if anyone even knows what im talking about or had i similar problem please help! |

Most D-Link device do use a NAT firewall. It would be helpful if you can find out its model number. Do you know how to log into your D-Link? Type either 192.168.0.1 or 10.1.1.1 (try both) into your browser & you should be able to locate your d-link & its info. For your other firewalls you should configure them to allow both LW & java access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Make sure your java is up to date: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...radejava.shtml Try deleting your LW Preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire |
DI-604 maybe that I is a 1? is this what you mean? |
Thanks for the info. & that is an I. Yes it would be wise to do what's known as port forwarding. This opens a port to allow LW full & not just partial access to LW. You'll need to set up a static ip 1st for it to work properly. A guide is in a link at the top of the following page followed by Port Forwarding instructions for the Dlink DI-604 & use Port 6346 read the instructions carefully. You will also need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image :) |
well i was following the instructions but in the part where it says go to advanced tab and vertual server mine looks differnt than that of the screen shot. probibly becuase my friend already set it up. but i want to go through the directions all the way and so i want to get to the screen in the screen shot. so in the home tab i clicked run wizard(this screen in shown in that link too) and i was going along to make my static ip and then i had to enter some values and it says Enter in the static IP information provided to you by your ISP. but i dont know what my isp is, or what that even is. by the way ive deleted the prefrence folder like you said i also followed some other instructions, but i wasnt exactly sure i was doing it right but nothing happened anyway. |
this is what i did earlier. in the firewall tab its displayed like this Action Name..............Source............ Destination.........Protocol Allow Gnutella...........WAN,*.............LAN,127.0.0.1 .....TCP,6346 Allow Gnutella ..........WAN,*............. LAN,127.0.0.1......UDP,6346 maybe i messed up a value (i put the periods in for spacing) |
Not being a windows user I have personally never configured windows type firewalls or any except a modem/router. So double-check the instructions. What firewalls do you have? You obviously have XP firewall for one, any others? |
i used to have some firewall, but im pretty sure all i have right now is the D-link thing, or i dont know of anyothers. |
does lime wire have an ip? i looked around for it but didnt see it. i know the port is 6346(or something im not looking right now). |
