a different kind of connection problem... Ok, first off, here's my specs, it's a brand new computer, just got it for Christmas. AMD 64 Bit 3200+ 2.25GHZ processor 512MB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM 160GB HD 8MB cache 7200RPM Windows XP Pro (had the service pack 2 but deleted it to see if it would fix the problem). Cable internet connection through a router. Limewire 4.2.6 Pro Ok, so here's the problem...this has been happening ever since I got my new computer, but never happened with my old piece of crap computer, so it's safe to rule out the router connection. I can connect fine TO limewire, but when I connect anything else I have running internet related stops working. For example, Msn will sign out, webpages are viewable but only by clicking the go button about 50 times. Nothing comes up saying that the internet connection is gone or anything, and it will still say I'm connected if I check in my network connections. Even if I close limewire out, I have to restart the computer in order for my internet connection to become stable. Aside from that downloading in limewire isnt going so well either. It sometimes won't come up with any results for really popular bands, and if I try to download more than one song at a time it's very unlikely for them to complete downloading. I thought I might just need pro, so I bought it, but the problem is exactly the same. If anyone can offer any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated, I'm ready to pull my hair out, I've tried everything I can think of. Talked to the people that made the computer and they seem to think it might be a setting I have to change? Thanks in advance if you can help.... |

Thanks for the help... I'm not really sure if the problem was there before installing limewire because I installed it on the first day I had the computer, along with service pack 2. I did uninstall service pack 2 last night and still had the problem, if it was a sp2 problem would doing that fix it, or would I have to totally reinstall windows? I did try downloading Shareaza to see if it was limewire, and it did the exact same thing, so it seems to be a file sharing program thing in general. Uninstalling limewire might fix it because 99.0% of the time I have the problem it's when I turn on limewire. I have the latest java version I think...the one limewire reccomends you download...umm v 1.3.1 it says. Does any of that shed some light on the situation? |

When you install LW it only asks to install the minimum Java version required. Actually you'd be better off with Java 1.5 (take the JRE) I'll leave the other issues with RaaF since he knows your system. (I'm a mac user. lol) You could try these things but it might be better for you to wait for RaaF. |

Cathapedia, I would first try to uninstall Limewire and Shareaza to see if that solves your problem. Uninstall Java (under configuration screen, software) Allso delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) found here: C:/Documents And Settings/ your_username/ .limewire After that, perhaps you could do a system restore to get your computer as close to new as possible. Further, what firewall(s) do you use and do you use a router ? If you reinstall Limewire use the English installer and install a new java Last edited by RaaF; January 11th, 2005 at 12:37 PM. |

Thanks again for your help, I'll try those things and see what happens... I use the Windows XP firewall, tried disabling it and the problem still occured. I am connected through a router, but the internet company I'm with isn't known to have any problems when connecting through a router, and furthermore my old computer on the same connection didn't do the same thing. Thanks again... |

The Windows firewall should be turned off automatic when you uninstall SP2. And most routers have a built in firewall, you better check that both are off to see if that solves your problem. I have 2 firewalls at the moment, The one in the router and Zonealarm no problem if both are configured well. I tend not to rely on Microsoft security to much when there is another easy choise |
