Limewire through SonicWALL
 

I am working with a SonicWALL pro100 firewall and am trying to use Limewire through it.

I have tried following the instructions on the firewall page, but I still can't use limewire throgh the firewall.

Here's what I have done so far.

I have added two custom services, both called Gnutella both port 6346 one with protocol UDP, the other with TCP. This didn't help. What can I try next.

I'm having the exact same problem. This is a true misery.

I don't use SonicWALL (actually I'd never even heard of it:o) but you might find some help at their support site

You think the creators of a firewall are going to teach me how to disable their firewall?

You could also try adding limewire or limewire/gnutella or Gnutella/LimeWire or javaw.exe

Well you can disable the firewall whilst you use LW but that's not recommended. Or use DMZ which is more or less the same thing.

Are you sure the problem is not hardware based? If you have a high speed modem/router then it no doubt will have an internal NAT firewall. UPnP will usually allow LW to communicate directly with the device to open a port for it. But if your device doesn't support UPnP then port forwarding is the next best step (better & safer than dmz); Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're saying. It's not *my* firewall, it's the apartment's firewall. Yes, they put a firewall in a place where I pay rent. I've tried manual port forward and UPnP. No programs connect - not Limewire, or Morpheus or Shareza. None of them! I've even disabled Windows Firewall, but no dice.

What's DMZ?

DeMilitarized Zone. It's when you turn NAT off on the connection device.

Gotcha. How do I do that? Is it possible from my computer?

Sorry I made a mistake. DMZ is a setting for modems/routers that use NAT security. Not for software firewalls. :o
So you'd have no control over the connection devices in your situation.

(Perhaps you might try the radical. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. Which is using proxies which may or may not make the slightest of differences. But dedication at continually trying is the trick to proxies.)

The best listening ports in your situation are between 49152 - 65535. Such as 64049. But also try 80 or 443 or 427
