Finally solved my connection problem I was finally able to track down the problem and got connected and wanted to share with you what I discovered because it may help others. The problem was one of the settings in my Norton Internet Security. The problem had to do with the Personal Firewall. I could leave Personal Firewall on, but on the Programs Tab - Manual Program Control I had LimeWire set at Block All. It worked when I changed this setting to Permit All. In the end I solved the problem on my own, but I do appreciate the responsiveness you showed along the way. Thanks. |

Hi David, If you have time, it'd be very helpful if you were able to document the steps you took and take some screenshots along the way. We can compile a list of rules for each program and list them on the website for future users. |

It's hard to beat the old ones, huh ?.... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=25119 No offense to anyone but it really is worth it to LW users to have a look at the BearShare help pages on firewall settings. At least a couple of thousand or so have read it !!!

I can think of about 6 - 8 volunteer type people, who worked their lower soft posterior parts off in creating the original, who would probably be quite pissed-off if you did just lift it for 'the Competition' ! Last edited by ursula; November 28th, 2004 at 01:29 PM. |

You know them. lol Yeah actually I was trained not to steal (plus that being the net law 'here' w/o prior permission of course.) But apparently in the USA that same rule doesn't apply to sites that don't make profit out of it. I certainly ain't getting any profit out of it. Not unless LW wishes to volunteer some funds my way. lol I'm not sure it should take 6-8 people to set up the process & write the page. Not unless each one was taking it in turns to add a one & a zero & a one & so on. lol Sounds like a count in to a song. I would have to be a percussionist wouldn't I. OK point taken. But the other obvious alternative is to add their link as well as Symantics' - which is not as straight forward for the average person. It was actually the latter link that was holding me back from stickying it in the 1st place - I was still deciding. If DavidGene could take some snapshots for each step & even email them to me I could fit them up into a handy page. And he could be the official author of it. DavidGene pm me that he sorted the issue himself & I suggested to him to post it so it'd be of benefit to others. He should be congratulated. Darth Vinnie & His FAQSlaves ! The user mendacious quality of the Norton site is the reason why I suggest to people that they will learn the basics far quicker, and thus be connected sooner, if they have a look at the BS FAQ page on firewalls... ---------------------------------- er.... Actually it was a group of 6 - 8 volunteers who produced the entire FAQs... They are certainly the best of any I know of and are full of info applicable to many other p2p clients and applications in general ! That Darth Vinnie sure does have a way with his slaves, huh ? |

And they've done a great job!!! By the way, Dare I say it I believe Vinnie & another here ... no I shouldn't say it. You know what I mean. lol That's history. I've been on dialup for the past 8 hrs what a pain. More updating of tele services in around the state. Just as well they have a backup.
