There's two steps to setting up a static ip for your brand of modem. You'll find the last part at the bottom of that page in a brown link; ie: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip-dhcp.htm

I finally fixed my problem with the command promt. The only step i haven't done is #2. I don't have a firewall or router and thats what these directions seem to need you to have in order to follow them correctly.

When i typed my ip address in the navigation bar i got a message that said the connection was refused. Again when i tried in internet explorer, it said that it couldn't find the address.

Perhaps your Speedport doesn't have a nat firewall after all. But some do. That's why it's listed at portforward.com

Set your LW to manual connect. If you're sharing over 1,000 files then for the time being reduce this down to say 1/10th of the number. Open LW & let it load the incompletes & shared files. Give it at least 20 mins. Then go to File>Connect. Wait up to an hour to see if it will connect. Do do anything with LW over this time.

It might also be wise for the time being to Disable Ultrapeer capabilities if you are running as a UP. This can be found under Tools>Options>Speed. Don't forget to press Apply after any changes to option settings. Good luck!

Well today i tried to "Direct Connect" with a friend and it said i couldn't because i was behind a firewall or router. Since the second option doesn't apply to me, i think one of my programs on my computer must have a firewall that comes with it. I think this might be the problem.

On a side note. I do have a router, but it's not attached to anything at the moment. Do you think that if i used the router instead of the hub, that it would make a difference?

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False? If it's false then you have a firewall somewhere! Either hardware or firewall softw.

Which version of LW are you using? It might be wise to move up to LW 4.4 which has better firewall detection & control.

It said false Oh man i'm looking for anything that may closely be related to a firewall. Is there a page anywhere with a list of programs that have firewalls.

Thank you again for all your help.

If you are using windowsXP sp2 go to start then control panel then security center. This will show your firewall. I just re-read this thread and you said you only had sp1. sorry I missed that, but just to make sure you can go to start control panel add or remove programs and make sure the show updates is checked. Then you can scroll down and see.
