![]() I have been unable to use Limewire or bearshare for the past month or so. I have tried everything with no luck. The only thing that worked was when i used AOL Dialup access then Limewire worked perfect on all my computers. But as soon as I switched back to Insightbb the results were nill even the downloads I started with AOL quit responding and could not be resumed. I have been in contact with Insightbb and have tried all of their fixes and listened to them say again and again that they do not block P2P programs. I am going to enclose my talks with them so you can see all that i have gone through. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am almost certain that users on Insightbb cannot access peer to peer networks such as Gnutella any more. Every one that i know who uses Insight in the area has lost access to peer to peer programs. Is insight blocking access to p2p programs such as limewire, kazaa, and bearshare? I have talked to customer support and he was convinced it was my router. I removed the router and still had the same results for all of the mentioned programs. I was able to access the networks without fail for the past four years, and now since sometime around the new year I am unable to access any. I am not the only user who is unhappy with this and I will end up canceling my entire account with insight if I find out that this is true. I will also reccomend that the many other users I know switch BB companies as well. Something called sandvine maybe?? Unhappy Customer, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Referred to tier two support. they were worthless. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh-- Thanks for your reply. I apologize for the less than satisfactory response from your call to the Tier 2 group. My experience with p2p applications is limited, and that is why I had tried to refer this to someone who might be able to help you more. Everyone I checked with here reiterated that Insight does not block p2p traffic. There are procedures in place to try to route traffic most effectively--it was explained to me that the system will look for hosts on our own network first for your file requests, but if that item is not found, it will then allow the search to continue for hosts outside the Insight BB network. The system should not block anything, all other things being equal. I'm sorry I can't help you more with this issue. I would be more than happy to try to help with anything else that I can. Specifically, what applications are you using? Do you know the ISPs of the hosts that you're experiencing difficulty with? Can you give me a description or summary of the actual incidents? What type of error messages are generated? I will continue to look into this for you. Our techs took an XP machine, installed all the updates, and then installed Limewire, and they were able to use the app without any problems. Other customers report installing Bearshare after the latest Windows updates, without problems. Could you try to uninstall and reinstall Limewire, and let us know the results? Thanks for your patience and cooperation. Thanks, John Bedinghaus Insight Support/Northern Kentucky 859.431.0300 x456 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh-- Here is what another customer reported to me: I download BearShare P2p software which also uses Port 6346 and everything is working fine. When I originally launched it windows XP asked if I wanted to unblock it as it was behind a firewall. I said yes and it has worked fine. I don't believe that the port is the problem or beawrshare would not have worked. I believe its a firewall issue. I have modified the firewall with a manual configuration by adding port addresses for the TCP and UDP radio buttons. I have tried various ports (6300, 6344, 6347, 6348,6350) but none seem to work. I don't really know much about port ranges and what might or might not work. With all said and done, it seems to be a compatibility issue with LimeWire and Windows XP. I don't believe it is the ISP but I could be wrong. Again, with BearShare I am getting downloads through port 6346. I am open for suggestions. Our network staff had this information: XP firewall only allows x number of tcp/UDP connections, for instance if he is browsing, has a mail application open, a chat client, etc and tries to connect to limewire, the firewall will keep him from it. We do not block p2p. Thanks, John Bedinghaus Insight Support/Northern Kentucky 859.431.0300 x456 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh-- Thanks for your feedback. This is a tricky thing to figure out. There are Insight customers using other operating systems that are not having this problem. There are folks using different p2p apps that are not having this problem either, so I believe the network staff when they say 6346 is not being blocked--it can't be if most folks aren't having problems. The updates to SP2 seem to be the common thread. From the forums, it appears that this is happening to different ISPs around the country. I will continue to work on this, but it has to be something else. Thanks, John Bedinghaus Insight Support/Northern Kentucky 859.431.0300 x456 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyone read all that???? |
