Can't Stay Connected Hello all. New user to limewire - pretty cool - however i have a problem. When the program is connected for a while downloading whatever, the connection status gradually drops to "connecting". What has happened is that my internet connection has dropped altogether and i cannot browse any webpages. To resolve this i have to reset my modem. Tech details are as follows: Limewire Version: 4.4.4 Broadband COnnection: UK Telewest 1Mb PC: P4 3.0GHz HT 512 MB RAM 120Gb HD 10/100 Ethernet connection to BB Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Davie |
Drop your upload speed to about 80%. And allow LW to settle down before doing anything. LW takes time to load & account for each of your incomplete & shared files. It also tries to connect to each incomplete one by one. During this time LW is busy. Jumping in too soon can put pressure on LW's resources. Also, don't use the Resume button on all your incomplete files. This can have side-fx of using up all of LW's resources & can affect LW's connection quality. It can also slow your computer down. Some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. eg: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...028#post116028 |
Excellent!!! seems to be OK now. My Connection even went to "Turbocharged" |
Spoke too soon. it's happening again. i do have a lot downloading - and i have reduced my upload speed again. but it keeps killing my internet connection. Any more ideas? |
This may sound drastic but you might need to drop your downld speed as well. Can you give us more details about your actual connection devices. It sounds like something a usb modem might do, but you said ethernet in your 1st post. And what do you mean by 10/100? What is the actual speed of your service? Also you can check the speed here: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/ (choose your country) or here http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp & another with other tests is here: http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest |
Hi, by 10/100 i mean that the card is 10/100 - but runs at 100MB/s I did a test on one of those sites and got 890 Kb. |
