'currently connecting' Error Message

Just installed Limewire 4.4.4 on Windows XP via BT broadband. Everything installed OK 1st time (it would seem).

Have read FAQs and forum but can't find solution so here's the prob:

When Limewire opens and I enter a search (ANY search) and click search I receive the following message box:

'Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network'.

I click ok, the blue search bar slowly scrolls and (0) is always the result.

Also, the bottom left of the screen always reads Quality: Connecting with just 1 green bar.

I've left limewire connected for a few hours and also re-launched and tried to delete the .limewire directory but nothing works. Please help as gagging.......

This may be caused by several different things, a little more information is needed. It sounds as though you have a firewall blocking your port.

Moden type and model no.
Firewalls

Are you running sp2. This has a firewall you need to configure and allow LW full access.

Some modems have built in firewalls, which need to be configured
Lord of the Rings is better of this subject.

Just out of curiosity in LimeWire under file click connect if you haven't done so already.

After searching the web. You may need to configure your modem for port 6346. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.voyager.bt.com/2000/downloads.htm

Just follow the instructions they give and you should be okay.

Yoy will also need to make sure that your McAfee Personal Firewall is also configured to allow LimeWire full access. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Have a great day

This might not be your exact model but chances that forwarding a port are indentical: BT Voyager 2100 But be sure to set up a static ip 1st which is crucial. When doing th eport forwarding choose port 6346.

Not all manuals give instructions or clear instructions on opening a port. So just as a backup.

Lord of the rings and Fabion......Thanks, it now works, hurrah!!!

Problem was with BT Voyager 2000 Modem. Solution is:

1. Launch BT Voyager Control Panel
2. Click Configuration from menu
3. Click Security (Will ask for log on details here)
4. Choose Advanced (for security level)
5. Click 'between WAN and Primary LAN
6. Click Configure button
7. Click 'Create a new filtering rule button (You need to do this twice, once for TCP and once for UDP)
8. Choose TCP from Protocol Type drop down box
9. Type 6346 in Port range for both start and finish
10. Click Apply
11. Repeat steps 7-10 this time choosing UDP from Protocol Type drop down box

And voilla!!! (Don't forget to click Save Configuration on BT Contol Panel Menu).
