Default limewire created dns errors in browser and email client

hello there.

here are my specs...

win xp sp2
internet explorer and outlook express
wireless network
limewire 4.4.4 (but happened on all versions)

when i run limewire on one computer on my network it knocks out every way to access the web on all computers including the one it's running on. however limewire works perfectly. i would like to be able to browse the web and download at the same time and not prevent other computers accessing the web and it has worked in the past.

any ideas what may be wrong.

note: i have configured limewire with windows firewall correctly and absolutely everthing is working fine. except this one issue.

sorry if this is a repeat post, i had a damned good look around for this issue, but couldn't find anything.

thanks.

matt.

the only way to fix the problem is to not use limewire when browsing and once i have finished using limewire i have to reset the router in order to access browsers again.

fyi:

adsl connection 1 mbps (btinternet)
belkin hardware.

You're running on a network. Did you do any port forwarding of your modem-router?

So you run as an ultrapeer? If yes is it intentional?

You can disable this thru Tools>Options>Speed>Disable UP cap. & press apply.

I'd suggest you reduce your upload bandwidth to about 70 to 80%. Tools>Options>Uploads>Basic

Do you use the Resume button to continue all your downlds? This can really use up a lot of resources both for LW, your computer & your connection. There's better ways.

You might consider reducing your downld % to about 90 or perhaps 80%. Reduce your uploads a little further & stay away from using the Resume button simply for continuing downlds as soon as you've started LW. After opening LW, let it settle for some time before doing anything. (By the way I generally wait 20 + mins before doing anything with LW. That's due to LW needing to spend time loading incompletes & shared files, & also trying to connect to each individual incomplete one by one.)

Make sure you have updated your version of Java: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Here's some hints for optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

great news!

fabion got to the bottom of the problem for me, so thanks alot.

i needed to set up port forwarding on the machine i use limewire on. in order to this i had to setup a static ip. after loads of fiddling about i got it setup and limewire is working even better now and i can browse the internet too. here is the link fabion supplied for me.

http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

this has loads of routers on and btvoyager 2100 was on it.

i'm currently using pipex' dns, but hopefully bt will get back to me with their name servers.

thanks again fabion and everyone for their help. hope this post sorts the problem out for others in the future.

Thanks for the credit matt_uk, but the credit doesn't belong to me. I sent several PMs to other members asking for help, and it was they who solved the problem. I was just a go between or middle man, and relayed the info. I received.

Glad everything is working as it should.
