greetings maadmn

I had a similar problem, but when I upgraded LimeWire the problem went away. I would suggest you upgrade to the newest version.

You can find the latest free version for download here. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Yes the new version of LW pro is 4.4.5 .

I'm not sure on the continuing downloads. I d/l the new version and installed it, and it automaticly picked up my d/l where they left off. Although I have seen other members having problems with this.

My suggestion would be to finish your d/l then upgrade.

I've never had any problems continuing old downlds thru newer versions of LW or even the betas. I did have an issue when I went several versions backwards though. So it might have affected some but 99.9% of time I'd suggest you're safe. Just keep your preferences intact & install LW where the previous version was (after uninstalling it.) Don't change anything.

You should become a member so you know when somebody has replied to your post.

Your wireless will most likely have an internal firewall. Most do. Can you tell us about your system?

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...)
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

1st after opening LW, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall & select UPnP & press Apply & see if that fixes your connection issue.

thanx for the input . to answer ur questions

win xp pro w/ windows firewall
15gb HDD avail., w/768 mb ram
i have set the connection to T1 ( i tried cable but no difference)
linksys router and wireless card
connecting from home
java 1.5.0_01.

now i did a little research and found if limewire runs in leave mode ( which i apparently am) it will go idle if there is no activity to drop the strain on the network. or at least that is the idea. and yes im set on UPnP.
is there a way to change this setting or at least increase the time before it goes to idle.
when i switched to the monitor tab and press "show" under "incomming searches" i get this message
"your client is a leaf node shielded by an ultrapear. hence u will see few incomming searches."

That last message just means that as a leaf, many unnecessary messages are filtered out by the ultrapeer you're connected to thus reducing network traffic.

LW itself will decide whether it's ready to switch to ultrapeer (UP) mode. It means your connection must be healthy (& you don't have UP capability disabled under Tools>Options>Speed.)

Some Linksys devices have UPnP capabilities. I don't know how to activate them. But if there's no such switch on the device then perhaps you can check on the Linksys device browser page /Router's Web-based Utility. (Open your web browser, enter 192.168.1.1) The LW UPnP feature helps to prevent the need for port forwarding with UPnP capled devices & also overcome SP2 issues. Otherwise you can choose the 2nd option which is Force IP using port 6346.

Remember that LW has an idle feature so that if it detects the computer has not been used for a period of time, it will reduce UP connections. But if you are downlding at this time it will have no efect on the downlding files! See rKapsi's post here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...highlight=idle
