LW use to connect but then suddenly stopped

I have Windows 2000 SP4 and have installed the latest version of LimeWire. I installed Windows 2000 last week. LW worked for few days and now does not connect at all.

Similiar thing happened few week back. I put in a fresh copy of Windows XP SP1 and LW worked fine for a couple of days and then refused to connect.

I get an error saying something like ...... "Lw is unable to connect to the host on the Gnutella network. Firewall or software content filter is blocking the Gnutella port."

I have no firewall in my machine with Win 2K or Win XP. The XP firewall was disabled.

The problem seems to be with my end on my machine. Something is blocking the port.

Any one have any ideas how I could get this resolved ..................... Pls heeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllpppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Well you can apply at least 2 fixes that apply to the new version of LW to see if that helps: Fixes for Limewire But as you suggested it does sound like something else.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of
Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...)
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.
9. Who is your ISP? (some block or filter p2p or specifically LW)

2. What firewalls you have? - None
3. ram? - 512 mb
4. HDD space available? - C drive - 2.14 gb
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) - 128kbps broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? - none
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? - Home
8. What version of

These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.
9. Who is your ISP? (some block or filter p2p ) - Sify Broadband (in India)

hope this helps :(

If you're using broadband you must have a broadband modem right? I did find this out about Sify: http://www.techtree.com/techtree/jsp...?storyid=53005 & R

Try the fixes above: delete the LW preferences folder & update your Java to version 1.5

Leave LW for 30 mins after opening before doing anything. Don't resume all your files or this may cause problems.

Set your Firewall to UPnP: Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall (& press apply.)

- Installed Java 1.5
- Deleted .limewire folder
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Java
- Still unable to connect :(

If there is anything else I can try please suggest

Well if UPnP didn't work, then try manual force ip: Force IP instructions & sample image & 2 posts below that. You still didn't tell me what modem device you have. If you have broadband you should also have a broadband modem right?

Other things to try:
1. When LW 1st Opens, close Tips window & tick do not display again.
2. Tools>Options>Connection & untick option to Connect on startup & press Apply button.
3. Tools>Options>Advanced>System Startup & make sure this is unticked & press Apply.
4. Tools>Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities & select Modem under speed & press the Apply button.
5. Close LW. Now re-open it. Leave it for 10-30 minutes & don't do anything. Then go to LW's menu File>Connect.
