Slow downloads I very much hate to ask this question because i see a lot of these type questions on the forum but i have researched the forum and have tried all the fixes to no avail.....until 3 weeks ago i was very satisfied with my download speed (15 to 20kb/s) but now it has dropped to 1 kb/s...... I have contacted my ISP and they say they have not slowed down the p2p downloads.............. Please help me to get back to better speeds downloading music... I have purchased limewire pro 4.6.0..... my computer; dell 8400..(6 months new) windows xp.. 512 ram... 80 gb hard drive that is only 1/4 used up... I have a 512 kbps internet connection... norton firewall has been configured for limewire.. i have turned off the windows firewall..... all other type downloads...programs, etc are downloading just fine...it is only slow when using limewire..... Thank you very much for your help... scott Best not to post email contacts within posts: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29 |
Who is your ISP, they normally wouldn't tell you if they were blocking/filtering p2p? |
It's not always easy to determine the why's about why somebody's speed starts to become irregular or goes flat. It's not necessarily their set up but possibly the sources they'e downlding from. I think Leeware gives a good description about this here: Their Upload Settings (click on link) Sometimes if I'm downlding a file & it continually drops to 1 or zero KB/s then I will Stop it. Then re-select from the search results. Further details HERE. After LW has been open for more than 30 mins do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False? If false then there is something blocking your uploads. It's a good idea to share at least 50 files & have your Chat enabled so it's easier for people to browse your files. Some people get suspicious & if they can't browse their files they think they are Freeloaders alias "Leechers"! And apparently may stop their uploads or even block their isp using filters. |
Thanks for the reply....I have tried everything you suggested, however it is still slow (1kb/s)....you refered me to the 'bug reports' under tools/options and down at the bottom of the report I found something that was at least interesting to me...... can you explain exactly what they are talking about? it says; MAX_Downloads_Bytes_per_sec= 1 This seems to indicate that is the maximun speed I can expect... I understand that the speed is affected by whomever I am downloading from but each day and from different people it never increases from the 1 kb/s.... Until 4 weeks ago Limewire was just great and the downloads were very fast....now at only 1kb/s this program is almost useless. It taked 30 to 40 minutes to download 1 song where by it used to take only 1 minute... Thanks Scott |
Try deleting your LW Prefs folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire May I repeat Fabion's question, who is your isp? We 'might' be able to find out if they are applying filters to slow you down. There's a no. of isp's that do it nowadays b/c p2p uses a large % of bandwidth when they'd prefer to save it for just the average surfer. Also, delete some of your incompletes that are around the 0% mark. Go to incomplete folder & list it in size mode & delete those that are 0 KB. Then after opening LW click on top of status column so it arranges your downlds in order of % downlded. Then delete those that are 0%. |
slow downloads Hello Lord of the Rings, Sorry about the ISP, I just forgot.......I use a local wireless ISP called Prompt Technology in China Spring, Texas (close to Waco).....it connects at 512...although they offer a much much faster connection I am very happy with the 512....they have assured me they are not using any filters and the next sentence confirms that. Last night I installed 'Shareaza' and it downloads anywhere from 30 to 60 kb/s which I am very pleased with....it downloads at those speeds everytime, mostly music. I have paid the $18.88 to connect to 'Limewire' and I still prefer to use it except right now it is exteremely slow, 1 kb/s. I read where they do not offer a refund but this is ridiculous. Thanks Scott |
