Limeware problem=Software Requirements? I just recently got a new computer and tried installing LimeWire 4.45 but it won't connect. I thought the problem might be related to my firewall or router (also recently purchased) so I tried opening the right ports in my firewall and my router. Didn't work . So far I've tried about every solution having to do with firewall or router related problems. Then I realized that my other computer is using the same router and firewall yet it can run LimeWire perfectly so I thought that my problem may be software related being that computer is new (might be missing programs such as DirectX,etc.?). I can't use BitTorrent either . Can some1 plz help me? edit: forgot to add that I'm behind a Windows XP firewall and using a Linksys BEFSR41 Router Last edited by path; February 27th, 2005 at 04:06 PM. |

If you want to forward a port for your router you MUST have a Static IP for it to work. I have a few links starting with this one: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm Setting up Static IP: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...TVUxMA**&p_li= Port Forw'ding for Linksys: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...type=search_nl Of course you should use Port 6346 I don't know whether the Linksys routers use UPnP or not. If it does then port forwarding might not even be necessary. The last step to above forwarding is manual Force IP within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image (& also see 2 posts after that.) If you are using UPnP with your router/modem then setting LW to UPnP should be all you'd need to do. Configure your XP & other firewalls using instructions here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Make sure your Java is up to date: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) By the way don't exect immediate connection. LW can take some time. Leave it to settle for a bit. Even try manual connect. Tools>Options>Connections & untick option box for immediate startup & press Apply button. Then after opening leave it for 15 mins & then go to menu File>Connect. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? |

Firewall Configuration: Tried it. Port Triggering: Tried it. Port Forwarding: Tried it. uPnP: Yes. Tried it. Java: Up to date. LimeWire: Connection previously left open for 15+ minutes. LimeWire Manual Connect: Tried it. Test Page:Results="Test Page was a Success". Even without any firewall configuration, port triggering, port forwarding, or uPnP, my other computer still works while my computer even with all these active does not. I think i'm just unlucky . I appreciate your time and patience Lord of the Rings. P.S.: I don't even think my other computer has its Java updated . |

You mean you have another version of LW working OK on another computer. You do know don't you that if you forward a port for a program you can only use that port for that one computer not both. Did you try deleting the LW prefs on the LW that's not connecting: See Fixes for Limewire |

On that computer, do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? |

Is your other LW running at the same time? I wonder if it's stealing all the bandwidth. I'm running out of ideas. Sometimes a version of LW won't like a particular computer's set up whilst it'll work fine on another. You could try an older version to see if it makes any difference. Or even the Beta. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml or older versions here: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ |

Nope. If your running out of ideas I think I might just uninstall it from my other computer and just install it on this one as a last resort. edit: currently trying other versions... Last edited by path; February 27th, 2005 at 05:38 PM. |
