cannot connect I'm running mac osx 10.3.8 on a linksys wireless router (firmware updated) and I can't connect. The Java's been updated and I've tried port forwarding, preferences for LW, UPnP and DMZ but nothing's worked. I can't even get the test page to come up on the browser, instead I get a message saying that it's timed out. Any suggestions ? Anything ? At this point I'd be pretty happy if I could get the test page to load. cheers |
You have a router, so how many computers are connected to it? Who is your ISP? Did you set up a static ip when you did dmz or Port Forw.? Is that a usb or ethernet modem? What type of connection do you have? Have you ever been connected using LW before? |
I'm guessing the problem's the router but I'm not sure what else to do to fix it. There are 2 other computers connected to the network, but they haven't been setup/used yet. I did setup a static ip for port forw. & dmz. The modem has the option of both usb and ethernet but it's set up for ethernet right now. I have ADSL connection (supposedly 256K courtesy of TSTT a beautiful monopoly), but I've never been able to connect on the wireless network. |
Is it possible to temporarily by-pass the router? Just for the sake of making sure it's the router that's the problem. So connect directly to see that it does connect properly. Also repeat the http://www3.limewire.com:6346 test with your browser. |
Interesting...I connected the laptop directly to the modem and I still got the message the the operation timed out when I tried to load the page. So what does that mean ?? |
It means either the issue is with your modem or ISP. Some ISP's are known to block certain ports used for p2p use. What type of modem is it? It may require port forwarding itself. What's the brand & model number of the modem? Also, who is your ISP provider? |
Hmmm, well the modem is a Speedstream 5200 by Siemens and my ISP is TSTT = Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago. |
You can port forward it via here: http://www.portforward.com/efficient/5200.htm (sorry but I think it's windows instructions so make the most of it you can.) In the meantime I'll see if I can find anything out about your isp blocking p2p. Here's some other links I found re: 5200 http://text.dslreports.com/faq/eff#4 http://text.dslreports.com/faq/8472 http://forums.speedguide.net/showthr...73#post1520273 http://text.dslreports.com/faq/8472 |
