no connection on campus? I can not connect and I think the reason may be that I am on a college campus. I can connect with other programs, Kazaa and emule. I do NOT have these programs running while I try to connect. I tried the whole delete .limewire folder, disable checked/apply/ok the connect at startup, disabled ultra trapper, I have the ports of 6346, I manually went in and put up the port 6346 like it says here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml fot XP, I only have XPI exited the program, rebooted my computer after all was done. AND STILL an hour later and I am not connected. Agaim, I have XP firewall and that is my only firewall. I have a fast internet connection, my internet works, But the only thing I can think of is that fact that I heard that my campus might be monkeying and might not be letting me connect. Also, I have no "connection" tab. I have 3, the search, library, and monitore tab. None for connection. I have 256 mbs RAM and 57 gig of regular memory or whatever you call it with 37 free space. ARGH, thats as specific as I can be, I read over a bunch of stuff, and on some I must admit I am a computer moron. |

Go to LW's menu View>Show/Hide & select Connections. That will get that window back! You could be right about the school blocking. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? (Sometimes they block certain ports.) See this post by Deepblue HERE (click on link) A suggestion, go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Firewalls & select Force IP & type in port no. Press Apply. (Force IP instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.) Then try to connect manually from the menu bar selecting File>Connect If that doesn't work, try other port no.'s both for 1. Force IP & 2. for the listening port. Try ports like port 6344 or 6348. If that doesn't work then try others like: et voilà's post here Else look at the 1st post on that thread link for Force IP by Ursula & you'll find a link to other legal ports you can try. If this doesn't work then try a Proxy: Another option is A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire which is using proxies. |

Im in the same boat. Friday I downloaded LimeWire for the hell of it because it did not work in August, but I heard about the new version just released so I gave it a run. I noticed you can change the listening port so I typed in a random number (because my campus blocks P2P) but as of last night I can no longer connect. LW worked fine all day friday and saturday and I was a ble to get some downloads in, but now I cant connect. I went to that test page that you listed and it said I passed the test. I tried using a proxy but that has not worked. How can it go from working to not working even though the school does not have the port blocked? |

Well ... that's hard to say b/c different schools apply different techniques. First I'd suggest trying a different port no. See the link in the 1st post of this thread where it refers to Alternative Ports: Force IP instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that, but just go to very 1st post!!! (by the way port blocking does happen, isp's do use it!) |

Well I got the test page for the default port to work. I changed ports in the options and still nothing. LW says it cant detect an internet connection on my computer. Says this on everyone elses computer to. I used the Force IP or Force Port with the new LW version and still nothing. |

It tested 6346 and YES. The Fuzz blocked it The page turned up as if I had no internet connection and my internet connection is working just fine. Not going anywhere neer Deepblue's idea. I am not that smart and if I did get that smart and tried, we have intelligent people running our computer systems. I went the link about forcing port no. and had to go down to the newer version, the thing on "listening ports", router config/manual port forward...you know what I am talking about But it says also says something in your first post about checking the proxy connection. In all, how many places do you have to put the port no. in? 3 times in all=2 in the tools/options/advanced/firewallconfig and 1 in tools/options/advanced/proxy OR 2 times in all=2 times in tools/options/advanced/firewall and none in in tools/options/advanced/proxy? Two more questions I will make quick, any good port no. I should use and how long does it take to connect for the first time on a fairly fast internet connection? Thought I read one place an hour |

OH and I looked at the other threads and I noticed one on JAVA. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34794 I have java of some kind, not really familiar with it. However, it says that I needed what was said at the bottom. I am almost positive I do not have that and am downloading it right now. |
