![]() I've been having problems keeping Limewire open for about a month now. It started when I got my new computer (my dad's old computer). Limewire will open fine, and I may even be able to use it problem free for five or ten minutes, then suddenly an "illegal operation" message will pop up and limewire closes. If I try to open it again, it will tell me that it couldn't access the java runtime environment or something. If I reboot the computer, the same will repeat, with Limewire working for five minutes then crashing. I've read all the other java threads and have removed and re-installed java several times, I've even removed and reinstalled limewire, but this has been going on for a while. I currently have the latest version of limewire, though it was having this problem on the last one or two versions I downloaded previously. I have no firewalls, my internet works fine, and I'm running windows 98. |

![]() That was quick... I can't open Limewire at all now, I just rebooted the computer and it still won't open. I think it was something 5.0? I tried to go to the java site just now but going to the site makes IE crash?? |

![]() Try deleting your LW preferences folder; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire SOmetimes Java 1.5 doesn't behave very well on some people's systems or likewise for the previous version. Yo could try the previous version of Java to see if that makes it more stable: 1.4.2: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html (Choose the JRE) Last edited by Lord of the Rings; March 15th, 2005 at 06:24 PM. |

![]() Okay, I deleted the preferences, and downloaded the other version of the JRE and thought it was working fine, but 15 minutes later I got the same messege again: This program has performed an illegal operation. When that message box was closed another popped up telling me that Limewire still could not load the java runtime environment. I don't know why Limewire works for a while, and lets me get about halfway through some downloads, before it suddenly decides it doesn't work! |
