Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Make sure your firewalls are properly configured to allow LW: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml for XP. And for Norton see: Configuring Norton Internet Security

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

The problem is I have never had a problem on this desktop computer connecting to Limewire until recently... Vista, HP pavilion desktop, McAfee, Java 1.6.0_10, Limewire 4.14.8., Recovery D: 1.63 free of 7.68, HP C:245 GB free of 364GB, Comcast broadband highest speed, Modem ARRIS provided by Comcast, Linksys wrt546 "wired" to upstairs xp laptop that has no problem connecting to Limewire. I really do not want Frostwire and would like to use Limewire. I just can't figure out why BiTorrent, Frostwire, etc connects but Limewire doesn't. Thanks for trying to help..Fran

What does your problem have in similarity to this 3 year old thread? Different computer configuration, different firewall, different isp, only thing in common is you are using LW but a different version.

Problem might be the gnutella file else perhaps the advanced settings, else perhaps using same port as another limewire on same network.
