Unhappy Lost connection

Here's the deal, I'm currently using Limewire 4.8, but every now and then (at apparently random moments), I lose my internet connection completely to the extent that I have to unplug my broadband modem from the mains for a minute before powering it back, at which point Limewire continues working along with my other internet apps.

This wasn't a problem from the offset (I've used earlier versions of Limewire trouble free at first).

The problem occured on my old PC, it's now happening on my new PC, yet it DOESN'T appear to happen on my laptop.. spooky.

Any suggestions?

1. OS version? XP Pro - no service packs
2. What firewalls you have? - Norton Int. Sec 2005
3. RAM? 512Mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 100Gb+
5. Connection type? 1Mb broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem - Scientific Atlanta DPX110, Router - D-Link DI-514 Wireless router
7. Connecting from home
8. Limewire ver. 4.80 Pro / Java 1.5.0_01
9. ISP - Bluyonder (Telewest)

That does seem odd. Almost sounds like a bad component. ie. router or modem.

Are you trying to run LW from different computers at the same time?

Never at the same time.

My PC used to have a wireless network card, but now it's wired, but still troublesome.

Are you connecting to your modem by USB cable or ethernet cable?

A stab in the dark! How old is your Di-Link? Do you find it gets particularly hot? I have a DI-Link myself but I have a G version which overcame an over-heating issue which the earlier versions had. APparently this could cause dropouts or problems with connection. This problem was prevalent with their cable modems.

If possible try by-passing the DI-Link to see if that makes any difference.

Hmmm still seems odd. I can only think it might be an intermitant problem with your modem, router, or ethernet cable.

Can't be more than 15 months. It doesn't get particularly hot, but i'll give it a try and see how it goes.

I have this same issue, how strange. I was looking for an answer to this problem. The only time my internet connection drops is when I am running Limewire .. I have lime wire pro, the latest version. Limewire has always worked great for me until I networked my 2 PCs now everytime it drops the connection, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes hours. I also have a wireless D-link router, cable modem, and Win XP home edition. I hope there's help!

Sounds identical to mine, although I can't remember if it failed prior to me setting up my network. Does your connection drop regardless of which PC you use, mine only seems to fail on my desktop as i've successfully completed a 2 hour download on my laptop this morning!
