Limewire is currently connecting

Newbie here - just installed Lwire and downloaded
a few files - great!
Now, though when I try to search
I get :
'Lwire is connecting to the network - your search may not return many results until you are fully connected.'
Many results - I dont seem to be connected at all.
So does this mean the network is OK but overloaded
somehow, or is there an actual problem with my connection?
This error message is ambiguous.

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Lots of people in the same boat as me

I am having similar problems to the guy above.

I'll be as clear about my setup as possible, because from teh looks of it alot of people are experiencing similar problems.

Right i'm connected to the internet via a network running a NAT. It has support for upnp.

I have added javaw.exe to my firewall trusted app list and i know for certain that it is not blocking anything.

I launch limewire and it just sits on 'Connecting' forever, it never connects.
I only have 1 green light. I can see the connection attempts to peers being made in the connections window, however they seem to all be timing out as in they can't make a direct connection to me.

I have managed to get port-forwarding working alright even though i'm behing a nat, using UPNP (bit torrent works fine with azureus and the upnp plugin, using the log i can watch everything that's going on, and find the ports that have been setup to go to my machine's lan ip)

Anyway when i go to
http://www3.limewire.com:6346/

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact www3.limewire.com:6346."

When i use telnet i get the following:

C>telnet www3.limewire.com 6346
Connecting To www3.limewire.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port
6346: Connect failed

I have been reading these forums for hours trying everything i can, including removing .limewire configuration files etc, i have even tried using an HTTP proxy and reconnecting, but then it just tells me that limewire can't detect an internet connection.

What else can i try?

Dare I say it but that test page seems to be down. lol

OK let's try this:
1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

2. After opening LW you will need to reset your options, but leave everything at default except the following: Go to Tools>Options>Connections & untick connect on startup & press apply button. (Also go to Tools>Options>advanced>Startup & make sure connect on startup is unticked.)

3. Go to LW's menu File>Disconnect. Wait a minute. Then go File>Connect & wait about 10-15 mins. to see if it connects.

this sucks

That didn't work.

I have tried on different ports too, from the standard 6346 to other ones.

I was thinking maybe the fact i can't access the limewire server on
www3.limewire.com 6346
was because it's been filtered out on the gateway, but if you are saying it's down for you too maybe thats not the case.

Would there be a way of manipulating the packets sent by limewire to avoid the filtering taking place on the gateway to the net.?

Also is therre a sure fire way i can determine if this is the case?

Using a proxy would be redundant if the filtering is taking place before the packets are reaching the internet.

I personally know little about proxies but you could always try different ones. Feedback has said that you may need to try quite a few before you find one that one works.

See: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions.

And http proxies

Not sure why you chose a 3 year old thread to reply to.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Since this 3 year old thread has been "revived" and also, since I just downloaded LimeWire 4.18.3 and experienced the same problem when attempting a search

"LimeWire is currently connecting..."

I fixed this by taking these following steps:

1. disconnect LimeWire (even though it's not fully connected anyway)

2. Navigate to menu Tools -> Options -> Speed

3. REMOVE check mark from "Enable OOB Searching:"

4. reconnect and Bob's your uncle

seems some internet connections do not work well with this feature, this fixed the problem for me. hope it helps anyone else.
