ISP Provider blocking limewire, can I get around this :( I have tried many options in getting limewire to connect, including disconnecting firewire and deleting .limewire file before connection. I think my service provider may be blocking use of program as it is a university. Can anyone help??? |
You're not the 1st from Can. uni asking about this. Except they wanted to try a http proxy. See: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions. Yes many schools & uni's block p2p nowadays b/c it uses so much bandwidth & costs them money. |
Thanks for responding. I had a look at those instructions before, but dont seem to be able to get that to work. Does it matter if i am using a certain type of proxy (ie. HTTP, or SOCKS 4/5) I'm not really sure how to find the right one to use. |
Not sure no. I personally don't know a lot about proxies but that not all will work so you have to keep trying new ones out. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...highlight=http There are differences b/w proxy 4 & 5. So when you find a proxy it will no doubt tell you which type of proxy it is. They never did post back to say how they went so ... |
If you're still having problems then look at this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33592 |
