ISP Provider blocking limewire, can I get around this I have tried many options in getting limewire to connect, including disconnecting firewire and deleting .limewire file before connection. I think my service provider may be blocking use of program as it is a university. Can anyone help??? |

You're not the 1st from Can. uni asking about this. Except they wanted to try a http proxy. See: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions. Yes many schools & uni's block p2p nowadays b/c it uses so much bandwidth & costs them money. |

Thanks for responding. I had a look at those instructions before, but dont seem to be able to get that to work. Does it matter if i am using a certain type of proxy (ie. HTTP, or SOCKS 4/5) I'm not really sure how to find the right one to use. |

Not sure no. I personally don't know a lot about proxies but that not all will work so you have to keep trying new ones out. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...highlight=http There are differences b/w proxy 4 & 5. So when you find a proxy it will no doubt tell you which type of proxy it is. They never did post back to say how they went so ... Last edited by Lord of the Rings; April 5th, 2005 at 03:06 AM. |
