You can look at this link for configuring your firewalls. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml If that doesn't help provide the following information. Computer and CPU Operating system and sp (MAC,win98) HDD RAM LimeWire Version Java Version Firewalls Moden type and model no. Router type and model no. Connection (Dialup,ADSL,DSL,Cable) Where are you connecting from (Home,Office, School) Who is you Internet Service Provider (ISP) Thank you |

Hope you don't mind if i add my settings to this thread, but i'm having similar problems...i only get the "connecting" symbol and after a while it tells me i have no good connection / firewall blocking connection: CPU - Athlon64 3000+ OS - Windows XP Pro (SP2) HDD - Western Digital 120Gb RAM - 512Mb Crucial PC3200 LW - LimWire 4.81 (non-Pro) JVM - Java 1.50.02 Firewall - Hardware router firewall (ports 6300-6400 open manually) Router - Netgear DG834G (wireless) Connection - ADSL 512/128 ISP - PlusNet Home Connection I know all the ports i have opened are fully open, apart from 6346-6348 which appear to be permanantly blocked. I'm currently trying to run LimeWire on port 6340 which i know to be open. I also tried a working socks v5 proxy with no luck. The bug report shows "false" for incoming connections, but i have disabled the windows firewall and have no other firewall / anti-virus programs installed. I have tried that link and it is yet to work so here is that info you asked for: Compaq Presario Windows XP (SP2) HDD- ? I don't know what that is 512 MB Limewire 4.8.1 not Pro Java- ? Firewalls- Windows and Norton's Modem/router- ? Cable home connection Comcast It's a brand new computer if that helps. If you need more info I will tray and figure the ones I didn't know out. Thanks again |

Tiffany2622 you don't need 2 firewalls active. In fact I believe Norton actually recommends against running 2 firewalls. So close down your XP firewall & configure your norton firewall to allow LW full access: Configuring Norton Internet Security (click on link) (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire CD 1986: Did you set LW for manual port forwarding: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. And choose a port no. After opening LW let it sit & give it some time to connect .. perhaps up to 30+ mins. |

Yeh i've tried both Upnp and manual port forwarding, but no luck with either. I've left it sitting for up to an hour but it won't connect. If my ISP is blocking gnutella apps / ports, i should still be able to get round it using a different (open) port and a proxy, or is that wrong? |

Just tried on different ports (7000, 8000)...using the manual connect...after half an hour i got the message: "Limewire is unable to connect to hosts on the Gnutella network. This is most often due to firewalls...." Unless there happens to be a fluky conflict of software, i'm leaning towards it being an ISP issue since i know that there are no firewalls blocking the ports i'm trying to use. I might put back my basic Drive Image OS backup, just to see if its a software conflict issue. I'll also have a look at the dial-up option...thanks for the help! |
