![]() Hello everyone.. Thank you in advance for your time with this matter and I hope we can sort out my problems .. I would also like to apologise if you have heard this very same set of questions 1000000 times already. I downloaded Limewire and tried to connect and as you can see by this thread had no success .. I read a few threads to see what I could do and found out I should supply you with this information as a start .. See below.. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1, Windows 2000 SP 4 2, Zone Alarm Pro 5.0.590.015 3, 256 mb ram 4, 30 gb 5, Cable 6, D-Link DI 804 7, Home / Work .. ( I Work from home ) 8, LW 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0_01 9, NTL 10, Yes very much my first time .. I found a link that said it was advisable to check your port access by using this link www3.limewire.com:6346/ I tried this and got "This page cannot be displayed" so this is an obvious start to why I cannot connect. I then tried the link www3.limewire.com:6346/ on my 2nd PC to see if I had the same problem with that one .. 2nd PC 1, Windows XP SP 2 2, Zone Alarm Pro 5.0.590.015 3, 1 gb ram 4, 160 gb 5, ADSL 6, D-Link DSL 504 7, Home .. ( I Work from home but this PC is on a completely separate network and ISP from the first) 8, Lime Wire not installed was just trying the port access via www3.limewire.com:6346/ 9, BT Broadband 10, Yes very much my first time .. Still When I tried the link www3.limewire.com:6346/ got "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www3.limewire.com:6346" I tried this on both PCs with the Firewall shutdown and got the same response .. Does this mean that my router is blocking that port ? Any help in this matter would be gratefully received .. |

![]() Unfortunately that 6346 test page has been down for a couple of weeks & might not be put up again. Thank you for supplying all your details. Very refreshing! ![]() ![]() I am not sure whether Di-Link understands UPnP technology. For that reason I manually forward a port on my D-Link 504G. Perhaps you should try the same thing. But if you intend to run LW on both computers then you'll need to forward a different port no. for each one separately. Oh ... I take that back. If you use them with separate isp providers & they're not running thru same router then you can use the same port no. The steps are 1. set up a Static ip 1st ... very important for this to work!!! 2. Forward a port on your di-links (804 will probably be same as 504 to set up.) 3. Set up LW for this. 1. & 2. See bottom left of following page link for Di-Link & find your model: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & there will be a link on how to set up your static ip also. Forward port 6346 3. Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. 4. Configure your firewalls to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml (By the way, you don't need 2 active firewalls & some brands strongly recommend against it b/c they can interfere with each other. So choose on or the other. 5. Other recommended Utilities Last edited by Lord of the Rings; April 21st, 2005 at 03:04 AM. |
