Mac OS X Tiger and LimeWire Anyone already knows about problems with Limewire and Mac os Tiger? It start normally but don't make any connection. help me please thanks |
I don't know about Tiger but we will need more details. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. |
If it happens tiy have norton antivirus on a mac, the best advice is UNINSTALL!!! Ciao  |
more details 1. Made the test... happens nothing, i mean in Safari i see a white empty page! 2. My system (OS Tiger) firewall is inactive. 3. Ram 1.25 Gb. 4. Two hard disk - 52 Gb. + 196 Gb. 5. Broadband 6. D-link router DI-704P 7. I connect from work 8. LW version 4.8.1 pro 9. ISP is Fastweb (I suspect that is the responsible of the problem, by the recent law in Italy for protection of software and media copyrights). 10. It's a new problem, I use LW from several years both on Mac and Pc platform. Thank for help Marcello |
Now i know Hi, now i Know that my problem with LW connection on G5 - Tiger, is not due to ISP. I tried to connect with a G4 - OS 9.2.2 and the same ISP and it works!!! |

So I believe you may need to forward a port for LW. If you already forwarded a port for your G4 then you'll need to choose a different port for your G5. 2 computers cannot use the same port when port forwarding under a nat device. If you haven't previously forwarded a port for your router then this is what you'll need to do: 1. Set up a Static IP (very important else forwarding a port won't work!) 2. Forward a port. By default LW uses port 6346 but you can choose another like port 6342 or something. You'll probably have a D-Link manual which shows you how. If not then you can get hints from here: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm Bottom-left side of page! (mind you these instructions are for windows.) 3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. |
I have also experienced problems after upgrading to tiger. I'll give as much detail as possible to give a better picture of the problem. I have limewire 4.8.1 pro, have a 2.5mb dsl modem with a good connection. The first problem after I upgraded to tiger was that some of the files limewire found, mostly the ones shared from multiple users could not be downloaded. Up to that moment despite this download problem my search results and download/upload connections were good (usually connected to at least 30 Peers and 15 Leaves). I installed limewire again to get rid of the download problem but that didn't bring any results, so I had to erase all the limewire files and preferences and reinstall limewire. That fixed the download problem but for some reason it caused a connection problem. I could no longer connect to more than 5 ultrapeers and got much less results and usually lower download speeds. I have noticed that the dropped input percentage to the connected hosts rose to 65% or higher (previously the input percentage never exceeded 4% and for most connections it remained around 0-1%). So after waiting for about a week and still experiencing bad connections I completely erased my hard drive and performed a clean installation of tiger in case of a system issue. After installing limewire on the new tiger system to my dissapointment nothing changed and there's still a connection problem with a high percentage of dropped messages (60% or more). I have no firewall or router. I also tried the 6346 test (http://www3.limewire.com:6346/) and passed it. Any help would be much appreciated. |
Tig did you previously have any devices port forwarded? If yes then you'd need to reset the option for manual port forward under LW Prefs>Advanced>Firewalls. Sounds like you may have missed one of your settings somewhere upon resetting them. |
Thanx for the advice LOTR. The manual port forwarding at 6347 was one of the first things I tried but it didn't work so I used some other randomly chosen ports in the unlikely event that my isp was blocking specific ports (hard to imagine though that my isp would start blocking ports at exactly the same time I decided to upgrade to tiger) so I didn't have any luck with that either. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
