Angry Newly Added Limewire not connecting

I have limewire on my computer and it's great. Last night I installed it on my friend's brand new computer but it is not connecting. I click on the limewire icon and are taken through to the correct page etc but when I type in a search I get "Limewire is connecting and this may result on you not getting a much searches" or words to that effect (as I remember it). They have broadband connection. I followed the steps and added Gnutella to the firewall. We ended up removing the Limewire and starting again. BUT there was a problem. When I click on the "Limewire Win set up" icon it ways that the computer detects that an older version is installed and offers me a "abort, retry or ignore". We chose to ignore. When you click on te Limewire 4.8.1 icon on the desktop you are taken through the whole "English", next next next finish process. God, what a mess. How can we get out of this spiral of trouble. Please help

Angry Newly Connected Limewire not working

Hi Fabion, this is my friends computer we are talking about so I will provide you with the information that I know:

1. Computer Type Dell Desktop 3000
2. Operating system Windows XP
3. Hard Disk 40KB (hope that's right)
4. Norton Anti Virus comes with the Dell Package
5. Don't know about the Java version. We did not download but I thought it automatically downloaded with the Limewire. Where can I check this (hope you don't think I'm thick but although I am fairly computer literate, I am not an advanced user.
6. Limewire 4.8.1. (latest downloaded only yesterday)
7. Connection ADSL
8. Connecting from Home

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Hope you can help.

Hi Sheweiry

This link gives instructions on how to configure the most common types of Firewwalls.
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Symantec/Norton suggests you not use 2 firewalls as they tend to conflict with each other. Edit Note: your WindowsXP sp2 has a firewall.

If configuring the firewall doesn't help you may have to forward a port on your modem/router. You can find instructions here on how to do this. http://portforward.com/routers.htm

You will need to find the modem/router model no. when you get there.

You can find the Java Version by doing this in LW help>About LimeWire.

Hope this helps.

Angry Newly downloaded Limewire not working

Hi, I have been around to my friends computer and had another go. She has Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2.03. i have read the below problem in "installations" and this is the same as this problem:

" I type stuff in the search boxes for music and its just blank, also theres a little row of red bars on the bottom left of the screen and i dont know if its good or bad. There is one tiny green bar filled but thats it, if there are any dial-up users or anyone in general who can help, please help me, PM me or send an email to Forum Rules (click here)"

They are on Broadband. I followed the instruction regarding the firewall. Just don't seen to get any searches on anything. The message that comes up says:

" Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the NetworK"

Any ideas???

Thanks
