when i search the status bar goes along smoothly, then right before the end it just stops. it's been stuck on the same exact position for about 45 minutes. i've tried other searches and they all do the same thing.

Sounds odd. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire
