Default Changing default port

Hi guys and gals,

Just a quick question. Iam trying to change the default listening port for LimeWire, and when i apply this change, i recieve a message stating that the port is not available.

Does anyone have a resolution for the above problem?

Thanks
Leo

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); config instructions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Whilst LW is open you can apply these tests & vary the port no.: http://koti.mbnet.fi/gfactory/ctest/

OK, so your saying that the port needs to be opened / forwarded first before iam able to change the default listening port within the application.

Also my PC (no firewall) has more than enough resources to run LW. My router provides the firewall.

Thanks

Unhappy

Well, i have opened the specified port and forwarded it, with no success. So then i completly eliminated the firewall for testing purposes and still no go.

When starting LW i recieve the following message.

"LimeWire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections. Some features of LW may not work as expected"

And i still cannot change the default listing port number.

I know it's something that iam doing wrong, but i just can't see it yet.

THank
Leo

If you forward a port on your modem/router then you also need to make adjustments within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

You can test whether you've done it correctly by opening LW & using your browser at the same time do this test & add the port no. you changed it to: http://koti.mbnet.fi/gfactory/ctest/ to check it's open.
