Red face Connectivity problems, AFTER I connect to Limewire.

Unlike most the folks here who seem to have problems logging onto the network at all, I logon fine. However, my problem is once I've been connected to Limewire for around an hour or so, my connection quality goes from "turbo charged" and works it's way slowly but eventually down to "connecting" which seems to effect the speed of the downloads, if not stoping them cold.

It started doing this out of the blue. I was using an old version of limewire for quite some time (4.2 I think) and it started doing this. I soon after got the very latest version, thinking maybe it was the older version causing it or whatnot, but the newest version does it as well. It's got me pretty baffled, especially since Limewire works so well for me when it's connection is working properly.

Some other things to note are:

- I'm on 56k dialup.

- Once the connection quality goes all the way down to "connecting", I can still surf and do other things with my connection normally.

- Thats all I have to do is restart Limewire, and the connection works fine again for around an hour. Oddly, if I try to disconnect and reconnect in a session that a connection goes bad, it doesn't at all, it just stays "connecting".

- I don't seem to be having this problem with other p2p programs, although I couldn't confirm this...

- It's not likely at all that I have ANY adware, spyware, malware, viruses or any of that. I'm a total hawk, I scan for viruses and adwares with multiple, constantly kept up to date programs, every day. Actually, I've had the benefit of NEVER having a single adware or virus on this install of windows at all. Lucky me.

- I'm using SP2. Is this a problem?

Computer is:

800 mhz p3.
390(?) MB SDRAM.
Santa cruz sound card.
Radeon 9200 SE 128.
A western digital hard drive, I think...
56k modem
Direct x9.? (the very latest version)...
Windows XP with service pack 2. My machines a toaster, eh?

So, any help on what could be doing this would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm just stumped.

My 1st thoughts are that it's as a result of the way you're using LW. A dial up connection can only take so much traffic.
I have a suspicion you're downlding or trying to downld too many files at once or worse, using the Resume or Find Sources function on a no. of files at once. The latter function does have its side-FX! It can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time. If this is the case then my tip is to follow all the offshoot links from this page: To continue files downlding (click on link)

Ok, thanks. I'll try downloading only 1 file at time with none on pause, and report back the results.

Thanks again.
