Default Download of .0123 kb/s!! That isn't right should be 50 kb/s Please help me anyone

I try to download songs from limewire and there are 30 sources or so and it is a 4 star rating and I download it from 8 hosts and the download rate is cable or higher and I can't even download at 1kb/s. My speed always says 0 kb/s. I put the mouse on the speed for awhile and it will show like .013470 kb/s or .1295 kb/s. What is the deal with this. My firewall gives full access to the program. My connection in limewire shows turbocharge and still only .012339 kb/s. I have mcafee as a virus protector and firewall. I don't have the windows firewall enabled, that way there is only one running. I can download other files like the limewire program at about 50 kb/s from your website and other files straight from the web are the same. I have no problems. I am able to search fine. People can upload from me at about 7 kb/s. I have tried downloading a lot of different files even different types from limewire and nothing still. I was told to delete the preferences folder "c:/documents and settings/.limewire" I did this after closing all accounts of limewire completely and I restarted my computer and nothing happened the problem continued just as before. I would appreciate to here something from you. If you can't help atleast let me know you can't.

- I have windows xp 2002
- Windows service pack 2
- On my old computer I had downloads of 50 kb/s
- I have mcaffee virus protector and firewall. The privacy service is uninstalled.
- My computer can easily handle the download load because it is new and rather quick compared to my old computer and it could handle the load. I mean what computer can't handle a download of .01234 kb/s. Maybe like on of those really old apples with the green and black screens. LOL
- I have the latest Java stuff JRE...

Anything else that would help... I can try and get whatever anyone needs. Please help I am desperate though. grr... limewire. I paid for pro and this is what I get... Nothing.... LOL I like it... if it would download things for me.

Something you need to keep in mind. Even the high speed connections can offer slow uplds to others. Some people have many slots open & if there's many people uplding then their upld bandwidth gets shared around. eg: They might have 20 or 40 people uplding from them. Or else they are just miserly with their upld bandwidth.

Also keep in mind, even though the downld might say a T1 or T3 or cable connection, that might be the highest but the others might be dial up modem. Also consider that when downlding from many people, you are probably only getting a small fraction of the speed from each one.

Also keep in mind that there are other p2p clients out there such as Shareaza (RAZA) which utilise 2 networks. The other one they can only downld as fast as they upld so that's where most of their upld bandwidth goes. So for LW users, they often find such raza users may only offer from 0.1 to 3 KB/s.

Now back to your issue. You sound to be very well set up! If you still have the search results up, what you can do is cancel the downld & reselect it from the search results. This sometimes breathes some life back into the downld. Also re-searching the topic or browsing the host can sometimes re-liven the downld. Sometimes downlds can stall.

Did you try a file from the magnetlink site: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Here's an example of speeds you can get: Stief’s example: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...692#post138692 & just click the downld & LW will take over the downld. Tell us what speeds you get.

Have you seen this See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

One thought is your XP SP2. SP2 reduces connections. Some people have applied patches to increase this by about 4 or 5 times I think.

I have allowed the ports and everything 6346 just as stated in a sticky thread. I have applied the patch. Still not woking. I did steif's download thing and in limewire I don't even get one kb/s. I got like .0079 kb/s or something really small like that. Any ideas I have been reading up about this for a while and I'm trying anything at this point. Thank you very much for the help I feel a little releaved someone is now trying to help my cause.

I did one of those tests that test my internet upload download speed and this is what I got:

2005-07-13 03:22:38 EST: 375 / 112
Your download speed : 384939 bps, or 375 kbps.
A 46.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 115355 bps, or 112 kbps

I used this website: http://www.broadbandreports.com

You should not have got such a poor speed for the magnet link! It could be a modem/router issue. Excuse questions you've already noted answers to but, can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Thanks for the speed test results. At least we now know your limits.

1. Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
2. I'm only running Mcafee as a firewall. Limewire has full internet access though Mcafee firewall.
3. 512 MB RAM
4. About 56 Gigs available on harddisk
5. Cable connection
6. Not really sure if this is it but my cable goes to this modem and then the ethernet cable to my pc. Here is the make and model number of the modem. Motorola SB5100 SURFboard Cable Modem.
7. Connecting from my house
8. 4.8.1 Pro Version - Java 1.4.2_03
9. I just use internet explorer for my internet needs. I get my cable from davis communication in Cheney, WA.
10. I had limewire on this same computer and it was the same pro version and it worked for months and now it just went down out of the middle of nowhere. I have used the same modem on my old computer also and had no problems. If you need any more information I will do my best to get it to you asap. Thanks again.

My 1st instincts also would have been to delete the LW preferences whilst LW was closed. Since it was working before but only suddenly having problems.

"There is no firewall or router in the Motorola sb5100. It's just a modem and that's it. There is no ports to open up, or to forward." So the problem is probably not with the sb5100 unless it needs repair or something.

Is there any other splitter such as a router?

Another thought is the problem is your isp provider who may be filtering p2p using a special p2p program filter. eg: such a filter But I can't seem to locate anything about your isp.

Did you use these instructions for deleting your LW preferences: Fixes for Limewire (see images below) Rather than delete the LW preferences & then reboot the comp, it would be better the other way around. Reboot & then delete the preferences folder. That's of course hoping you don't have LW set to start at system start up.

There is no other splitter or router. Just the one modem and thats it. Yes I followed those exact instructions for the limewire prefereces folder. Any more ideas at all. Is there anything I can do if my isp has a filter. Thanks

salut live4soccer7, did you try changing the port from 6346 to something else like 1111? Your ISP could be interfering on that port. Also, if your ISP is playing with Gnutella traffic, other Gnet clients like Bearshare lite will get poor download speeds. Can you try Bearshare lite? http://bearshare.com/lite

Tell us your results!

Bonne chance

I have downloaded bearshare lite and I also get very slow download speeds. Something around 0-4 kb/s. It says it going to take me over an hour to download a file that is 8mb. The numbers in the bottom of the screen where I think it says your download speed are jumping aournd like crazy. The one with the folder with the green arrow will go from 1 kbps to 200kbps and the one with the two computers will go from 0 to about 350 kbps. I do not know what this means but I know it is not actually downloading fast. Up by my download it says transfer and then in parenthesis is says 9: transfer (9). I think this may mean from like 9 hosts. I have not changed my port to something different like 1111. How should I do that and will that work. Thanks. Also I am not using the windows firewall I am using mcafee firewall. But even if I take down the firewall completely and not even use one I can't get any download at all.
