Cancellation OK. So I've signed up to Limewire 26th July- 7 day trial money back if you're not satisfied. Can't connect regardless of what I try and believe me I've tried everything posted on the forum. Contacted my ISP etc etc. I'm a reasonably patient sort of guy but have finally come to the conclusion that Limewire sucks big time. So, how do I get a refund of my subscription or should I kiss my money goodbye and treat it as a Limewire rip off? Do I think I'll get a reply to this? I stand as much a chance as getting my money back or being able to download, ah well just another one of lifes hard lessons!. |
Reasonable Guy Garry You sound like a reasonable person but I will have to tell you that it seems that you have suffered a catastrophic failure of common sense. Your said: Quote:
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml If you went anywhere else then chances are your were ripped-off. So I guess you went to a scam site, fell for their lying adverts (which is where the common sense failure comes in) and handed over your money and payment details. The scammers now have your money and will now probably drain your account using fictitious purchases. Unless you contact your payment provider immediately, try to get your money back by saying you were conned by one of the many sites set up to part the gullible from their money and, finally, change your payment details. As a "reasonable guy”, you should have realised that what this scam site was offering was too good to be true. UK Bob |
Limewire Thanks for the reply. I guess I am a bit thick in these things so I thought I'd give it another try via the limewire.com website to see where I've messed up. Go to limewire.com, click on downloads, click on basic and guess what happens..... A nice pop up getting you to purchase the Pro version. Now if you're like me, which I hope many people aren't, I just signed up and put my details in without reading the form. So Limewire have my details, but I only have the basic version..... I keep being asked in this version to upgrade to Pro...... so how do I make sure limewire don't sell me something I don't want. And why do users who only want to try the basic version get redirected via pop up to a buy site??? |
Limewire.com???? Gary You said you went to Limewire.com to get LW Basic and got a pop-up saying purchase the Pro version. Could you provide the URL so that I can see where you actually went because following my own link, from my previous post, I get NO SUCH pop-up. In fact, I have just downloaded LW Basic to my office PC, which I will now delete, without any of the problems you describe. Gary, I don’t know what you are doing or what site you are on but you don’t have to provide any details to get LW Basic, only to get LW Pro. Post the URL link you are using to get to Limewire.com and, I believe, we can solve this mystery. UK Bob |
We've heard on occasion of browsers being hijacked when a user goes to www.limewire.com. Bob is correct, downloading LimeWire BASIC is a one-click process. If you don't already have a good anti-adware and anti-spyware program on your computer, please go to www.download.com and install one. |
Garry......I have same problen and NO MONEY BACK I will take this Further |
Hi All. I'm back after a great vacation. Anyway, money has gone from my account and I still only have the free version. I've checked the address from ukbobby above and go to the same web site. I'm now having to contact my card supplier to tell them about this rip off to ensure that I don't get any more taken from my account by these people. Take note good people, there are unscrupulous folk out there that offer services that are not fit for purpose and then don't offer any form of refund. I guess that's why they're a good sight richer than me!!! |

but if you DID happen to purchase LimeWire pro, and are using basic, then your account with limewire should be activated. type in the email that you used to purchase LW, and you will be taken to your LW pro download page... http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...pro_lookup.jsp |
I likewise have just downloaded LW Basic. It is not 100% straightforward... more like 99.99% -and is a tiny little bit naughty, but only a tiny bit! Get Pro and Get Basic are big red buttons side by side Click get Basic and you just get a big red button saying Get Pro. Replacing Basic's red button is written "see below". While it does not take a degree in rocket science to see this, I can see that someone in a big hurry would assume that the Basic link did not work, but really they would have to be blind not to suss it out. As for popups ... no idea as I dissabled them ages ago, and if your browser doesn't dissable popups ....use one that does! |

(even though i am a firefox user, i still know that i can recieve popups if i take action to see it. (such as clicking a link can create a condition that the browser will think its a legitmate action by the user, and the user wants to see this.)) etc... |

I've learned a lesson the real hard way. Yes I was in a hurry, kids chasing me to download and not really paying attention to what I was clicking. Lesson 1. Don't fill any forms out before you find out about the companys refund policy (none existant at limewire). Lesson 2. So dear readers, lesson slearned, how do I ensure that the people who took my money in the first place don't take any more? I've contacted my card supplier and informed them of the names of the companies involved and that I've tried to contact them to ensure I don't get billed again. Or is that to be lesson 3. Why can't somebody, anybody, fom limewire just give me an assurance that they won't be taking anymore of my money instead of telling me what an idiot I've been..... I already know that. |
And yes UKBobby, I'm sure all those who have degrees from the University of hindsight agree with you. However, in the real world, some of us do make mistakes and, as I am in this case, do pay for them. It is dead easy to sit back and mock, its a lot harder to actually be constructive and help. |
Gary Like you, I am a family man and I know what those pressures can do but to accuse me of mocking you is very wrong. First, from my dealing with Limewire I have found them to be OK and certainly not people who will rip you off. Their technical support, in my experience, is not as good as it could be but I have gotten more help from this forum. Now, if as you say you only have LW Basic when you have paid for LW Pro then contact LW from here: http://sales.limewire.com/support/? You have said: Quote:
If my tone, in some of my postings, seem mocking to you please note that they were not aimed at you. It just that there are lots of newbies with credit cards that go charging kamikaze-like towards scam sites without any thought about what they want, what they are doing and what is being offered, and my alleged "mocking tone" was aimed at them. As I said in my first posting to you, you sound like a reasonable person. Good luck in sorting out your problem with LW. UK Bob |
ripped off too Oh, I too have joined the ranks of the scammed. www.download-it-free.com/limewire2/ is where it all began, with a big add to download limewire that looked like the real thing to the neophyte downloader . I too fell for the 7 day cancellation period. got a billing confirmation with additional charges. Their chat link is closed. No humans on the phone. hmm. Yep scammed. I have emailed their support insisting on a cancellation- but of course i'm notified the email is undeliverable. I've also contact my cc company, who can't do anything until Monday, when I can dispute the bill. I'm pissed. So please no one chime in with the condescending remarks like some of the ones I've read. They don't help.warn other people, and pass on any helpful info or suggestions you've got. Look into making a complaint with the FBI internet crime centre In fact maybe some one at Lime wire would like to do this, if they haven't already. |
Allright people, come on now, why would you go ANYWHERE else, aside from www.limewire.com? Logical Progression says that: Any site that says, %p-for-free.com, is gonna mess you over, next time, don't go to ANYWhERE but LimeWire.com, not even www.lw.com or www.lmewire.com or anything like that, as you will in fact be scammed. The only legit "other than limewire.com" downloader is www.download.com, and thus, just stick with the real deal. P.S. Note that the sites provided, have nothing to do with limewire, if perchance they do have to do with limewire, stay away. |
