If both WinMX and Limewire say you are behind a firewall then there is something blocking them whether it your ISP or something else. The links that the lord posted have some pretty interesting comments about Rogers they do not have a very good service record. And no there is nothing wrong with your computer. In a earlier post you said you remember doing something to your Internet connection do you remember what it was.

There's another member (Jivs) recently posted who also has the identical problem & they are also using Rogers. The fact you both can't use 2 different p2p share programs that use different networks & different ports sounds horribly suspicious.

I wonder if you should try different ports. This might not work but might be worth trying. A proxy is another possibility but can be a pia to set up. Go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall & change the listening port from 6346 to another. These are ones you can try: 3500, 1203, 80, 20282, 443, & 40475. Press apply after changing. (Not sure if you should close & re-open LW or not.) Go to menu File>Disconnect wait a minute, then File>Connect. Give it at least 15 mins to try to connect. Do this for each of the above port no.'s

problems,problems,problems

Ok here I am again... I have tried to do a partial reformat and it didnt work. I have also tried to use other music downloading sites such as Kazaa and Blubster, they both said I was behind a firewall.. so I dont know what to think because I have called my internet provider: DSL Verizon and they say I have no firewall installed, and they dont block p2p networks.. so I am at a loss.. I do have an older version of lw that I am going to give a shot at.. 4.8.11 to see if that will work.. cross your fingers for me please..
thanks for all your support even though nothing so far has helped. It is a great comfort knowing that you are there to try to help when asked for help.. Thanks again, it is much appreciated,

tigercubb can you tell us:
1. your type of connection (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
2. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
3. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
4. Do you share the connection with other computers? If yes do they use any p2p sharing program?

LOTR here we go

Ok here we go..My type of connection is DSL Verizon, my modem is a Westll 327W and I connect from home. The only other computer I have is my husbands laptop and he uses a dial up connection.
The thing that gets me about this whole problem is that I have tried to get on to Kazaa and it says the same thing, that I am behind a firewall, I am not behind a firewall. So I just dont know,. I actually had to go out and get a good drunk on,, am I drunk now, YES, but that is besides the point the problem is still there..
:( sorry had to.
Would it be a good idea to try to totally reformat my comp?? Cause I did do a microsoft update and I thought maybe that might be the problem.. Maybe I downloaded a security update and didnt realize it.. I dunno maybe Im grasping at straws.. anything would be worth a shot now..
I think I am going to try to reinstall 4.8.1 first to see what happens there. But do you think that doing a reformat would do any good?? WTF is going on?? I just dont get why I cant get on to other sites like Kazaa.. That is just to weird.. I did call my verizon people and they dont block p2p networks.... your guess is as good as mine.. But if yours is better than mine... share please!
thanks in advance

I thought you were using win 98. If you're using win xp then xp SP2 does reduce the no. of simultaneous connections but doesn't explain why you're getting firewall issues.

Is it possible to connect your computer to the dial up to see if you have the same problems? Is the dial up the same isp?

OK actually I thought they stopped making Westell. I notice your connection device can be port forwarded (open a port.) This might be the way to go for you! Do the following steps in order but pay particular attention to setting up the static ip. If you get this step wrong then the entire process won't work after you disconnect the 1st time.
The steps:

1. Set up a Static ip. http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

2. Forward a port (try port 6346); instructions here: http://www.portforward.com/westell/Versalink327W.htm (choose the 3rd link 'Port Forwarding for the Westell Versalink 327W', & then find Limewire on the list!) ;)

3. Within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

Have a strong cup of coffee before you begin the process! lol hahaha :D

Tell us how you go! ;)

Can you go to the windows update page and see what the last updates you downloaded were and post the update # here.
