guys. help me. plz. just to sum up my problem: 1) Ive been using limewire 4.8.1 for a few months. 2) I reformat my computer. 3) I download lw again so i get the 4.9.7 version. 4) I run it for a 2 days downloading around 15 files, everythings ok. 5) The next day theres only one green bar instead of the usual 5 and an error msg pops up saying "your computer does not appear to have a internet connection or it may have a firewall etc." 6) My computer does not have a firewall. 7) My internet is fine i can run IE and everything. 8) Also, wen i start lw theres a firewall icon saying i haf a firewall blocking the gnutella network. 9) After a minute or so, that icon disappears and the green bar starts to go up. 10) After another minute it goes bak down to one -.- 11) Plz help me. |

ive been using the same cable for a year y wud lw just stop working one day all of a sudden? its worked for me for a couple of months b4 >.< |
This may or may not help but try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire or if you use mac then you'll find it here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire |
I really don't know about 4.8.1 becaus I did'nt use it behind a router. But 4.9.10 has some UPnP properties in it that help it to configure your router firewall and there is a bug in the UPnP whereas LimeWire will work fine fore awhile and somehow it will change your settings in the firewall and LimeWire will not work anymore. It happend to me a few times. But I still don't know if you are using a router. The symptoms are the same as the ones I experinced. Latter Grandpa |
sry lotr i tried your method of deleting the .limewire folder and it didnt work =( and i dont haf a router cuz i only haf one comp in my house and i sure i dont haf a firewall either O.o |
You Might want to try the new beta. First try installing it over your current version. If that does'nt work then you may want to save your files in another folder, then uninstall LimeWire go to wherever you installed LW by defalt it is C:/Programs/Limewire and see if there is a limewire folder there if there is deleat it. Then go to controll pannel add/remove programs and uninstall Java. Now manuall install Java you can get it in the first link. Then install the new Limewire Beta. Second Link http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420 http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml If you use the second option LimeWire will not be able to restart your current downloads, in other words they will be lost and you will have to reconfigure LW. The Lord may have some more sugestions if you do not wish to do this. And there is no guarantee that this will work. Latter Grandpa |
sry i tried both options but neither of them worked =( wut if i were to reformat my comp again? |
Why did you re format to begin with were you having problems or are U like me and just like to play. O/S Windows 98/2000/XP CPU P43.0/AMD 3200+ Memory 256/512 LimeWire Verson 4.8.1/4.9.11 Java Version 1.4.*/1.5.* connection Type Dial up/Cable Firewall Type Norton/Windows Router make & model Any information that accuratley describe your problem. I know you already provided allot of the info just wondering about the rest. |
i originally reformatted my comp cuz i believe i had a virus on it i cudnt even restart my comp. but if i do reformat it, will lw work again? i use windows 98, memory 184, lw version 4.9.11, connection cable, no firewall, no router. but that doesnt make sense, lw worked for me b4 y wud it stop working i didnt change anything to my computer. |
