1. Do you have LimeWire 4.9.11 installed?? PRO or Basic?
2. Do you have JAVA 1.5 installed ? You should if you have 4.9.11.
3. Do you have a router? If you are on a Home Network, you need to configure your router to use both TCP and UDP connectivity.
4. What Firewall are you using? You do have a firewall, don't you?
5. Have you allowed all necessary permissions for it?
6. If you are using WIN XP, have you or are you, current on all your updates?
7. Have you defragged lately? This will allow a more efficient "write" to you HDD.
8. Do you have sufficient space on your HDD?
9. Are you on Dialup, DSL, Cable or what?

A lot of questions but these can help resolve your problem.

Let us know.

2. It told me to download Java so i did and im pretty positive it is 1.5 due to the fact i downloaded it yesterday.
3. I'll have to work on my router.
4. I do have a firewall im not sure what one though.
5. Yes i have allowed necessary permissions for it. During Limewire installation, it asked permission and i granted it but thats all i've done...Is that enough?
6. Yes, i have all the current updates.
7. Yes, i defragged a couple days ago.
8. I have sufficient space.

I'm using Win98 and my network connection is Dial Up and i'm using AVG (anti virus) and i don't have a firewall. When i first downloaded Limewire is was version 4.8 and it was working perfect the connection was always very strong or turbocharged and a week ago the connect started only at on bar and stop and i'm sharing over 730 files. Then i downloaded version 4.9 sometimes when i connect i would have a strong connection but never turbo charged now, then it would drop to one bar only. Can u HELP me!!!!!!

Here's what I've learned lately.
Get rid of old downloads, anything waiting on sources etc...
My connection speeds up when I do that.
Anything running in the background seems to slow me down as well as items in the system tray. I use the task manager to monitor my system.
When I use LimeWire, I don't do ANYTHING else.
I found out my port assignment was off and when I changed it and did all the other stuff, it took off turbocharged.
Also, when you have a ton of stuff waiting, it seems to affect it.

Ok for those of you that are using a route, allot of routers have firewalls in them and you will have to set up LW and your router. Some routers support UPnP technology othrs do not. Clik on the link below it may help you.
