Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

* Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Default same problem

I have the EXACT same problem. I did everything i know to my knowledge to allow limewire to run, but i still get that error message. Limewire won't even open up, that just pops up and limewire quits itself. I even turn off my firewall completely, and it still doesn't work. Here is my info:

1. Q. OS version?
A. Windows XP Home
2. Q. What firewalls you have?
A. Only the Windows Firewall
3. Q. How much ram?
A. 512 MG
4. Q. Hard Disk space available?
A. 20 or 30 Gigs left (60 GB Total)
5. Q. Connection type?
A. Cable (Optimum online)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
A. D-Link DI-614+
7. Where are you trying to connect from?
A. Home
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have?
A. LW 4.9.28
9. Who is your isp provider?
A. Dont know. Optimum online i guess
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs?
A. I have a wireless connection to my router. It's shared by one other computer.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
A. Well, my old version of limewire worked, but once i updated it, it stopped working. I've never had the new version work.

Hope this is all right, and i really hope u can help me and anyone else with this problem. Thanks soooooo much. Please respond, even if u can't fix it, just so i know u read this.

P.S. Btw, i did the test that was posted, and to my surprise, IT WORKED!? That's really weird bcuz the test worked but limewire won't. I'm really confused.

I can see 3 possible issues. For a start, with a DI-Link you should forward a port. Second, I suspect you may need to change your Java version. 3rdly, you may have something else that is interfering with LW.

1. Uninstall your Java using your Add/remove programs control panel. Then downld Java 1.4.2 to your comp. (don't install over the net!), then install the java. See link for Java here: Fixes for Limewire

2. Optional - This may not affect your connection but might also. It will definitely affect incoming; ie: Forward a port. The "most important step" here is to set up a static ip 1st, before forwarding a port. Instructions here: http://portforward.com/routers.htm & find your model at bottom left hand side of page. With the DI-Link you will need to save your settings after it's complete & then softw. reboot your DI-Link from the Tools>Miscellaneous section of the DI-Link software.

After that's complete, then within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

3. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) & also see THIS post (click link)
